BHP Billiton, which built a state-of-the-art office along Preston Avenue, announced a $10.7 million donation to

The development of the Haynesville Shale natural gas deposits brings a huge economic impact to the region which is expected to continue for many years to come. Chesapeake Energy, a major owner of the area’s mineral rights, has invested over $1 billion in Northwest Louisiana, distributed nearly $300 million in royalty payments and has leased upwards of 700,000 acres. Schlumberger and BHP Billiton have both located state of the art facilities in Shreveport, substantially solidifying their operations in the region.

In July of 2014, BHP Billiton made a $10.7 million donation to the YMCA of Northwest Louisiana for the development of the YMCA Red River Fitness & Natural Sciences Campus located near Clyde Fant Parkway and East Preston Avenue. The Red River Fitness & Natural Sciences Campus will encompass approximately 150 acres, and will include a new 56,766 square foot multi-purpose fitness facility, 50 meter swimming pool (the only one within 150 miles of Shreveport), and natural science education facilities. The campus will also feature tournament style baseball and soccer complex.

The Cyber Innovation Center (CIC), located in Bossier City is further diversifying the region’s economic base by promoting research, education and technological innovation. The CIC anchors a 3,000 acre National Cyber Research Park and serves as catalyst for the development and expansion of a knowledge-based workforce throughout the region. In September of 2014, Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) broke ground on a new 116,000 square foot next-generation technology center at the 3,000 acre National Cyber Research Park being developed by the Cyber Innovation Center. The CSC project will create 1600 new direct and indirect jobs over the next four years.

Barksdale Air Force Base (BAFB) is the headquarters of Global Strike Command, the newest branch of the Air Force responsible for all of the Air Force’s nuclear capable assets. In July of 2015, BAFB welcomed its first four-star general commander, General Robin Rand. As the Air Force’s first four-star general in the post, General Rand’s installation is proof of the Air Force’s commitment to Barksdale. The base has an estimated annual impact on the local economy of over $400 million. Barksdale adds strength and stability to the economy through its active duty personnel, their families and a large and growing retiree base.
