Professional Achievement Award The winner of the 2017 PECG Professional Achievement Award is Caltrans Senior Bridge Engineer Dorie Mellon, who wrote and implemented the Accelerated Bridge Construction (ABC) Strategic Plan in California. ABC maximizes bridge construction or reconstruction while minimizing cost, project delays, and impacts on the traveling public. A nationally recognized expert, she serves on a number of Federal Highway Administration Committees, is Caltrans ABC Committee Chair, and her work has been reported in national industry publications. PECG was pleased to present the award to Ms. Mellon at a meeting with Caltrans Director Malcolm Dougherty. Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom spoke to more than 700 PECG members from the four Sacramento-area Sections. He addressed a wide range of topics including infrastructure, climate change and California’s future.

State Treasurer John Chiang, who is also a candidate for Governor next year, spoke at a meeting of the same four Sections last spring.
