Diabetes Prevention Program Informational Session (Facilitator Led)

February 7: One in three adults have Prediabetes and are 5 to 15 times more

likely to develop type 2 diabetes as well as are at a higher risk for heart disease

and stroke. Risk factors of prediabetes include being 45 years of age or older,

being overweight, having a low amount of physical activity, and/or having a

family history of type 2 diabetes or a history of gestational diabetes.

If you have prediabetes, getting type 2 diabetes doesn’t have to be a sure thing.

In fact, prediabetes can often be reversed. Participating in a lifestyle change

program known as the Diabetes Prevention Program can decrease your risk of

developing diabetes by 50%!

For the first time this Spring, West Chester University will be offering the CDC-recognized Diabetes Prevention

Program (beginning mid-February). If you have been told that you have prediabetes or are at risk of developing

type 2 diabetes, this program is for you. Participating in this program can help prevent or delay type 2 diabetes,

lower your risk of having a heart attack or stroke, improve your health overall, and help you feel more energetic.

This Diabetes Prevention Program is a FREE yearlong intervention divided into 16-weekly classes (both in person

and online) followed by 6 bi-monthly classes. It will follow a CDC-approved curriculum and will be overseen by

faculty and students from the Nutrition and Exercise Science departments in the College of Health Sciences.

To learn more about this innovative and unique new program, an informational session will be held on February

7th from 12:30-1:30pm in Sykes010A. Learn more about prediabetes, get a free screening, and find out how the

Diabetes Prevention Program can help you or someone you know!
