I have known Mr. Tompkins for one year. During this time, he was a student in my “Applied Statistics in Criminal Justice Administration” and “Administrative Planning” courses. I found him to be a very bright student, one with good analytical, research and decision making skills. He was not only able to master complicated statistical concepts, but also demonstrated his ability to apply these concepts in a “Statistical Analysis Application Paper” assigned during the semester. Additionally, Mr. Tompkins mastered major concepts pertaining to internal and external political environments and demonstrated his ability to apply these concepts in a fourphase strategic management plan assigned during the semester. As Project Team Member, he was responsible for four 25page research papers demonstrating his knowledge of organizational planning, administrative responsibility, and ethics in management, as he discussed the legislative process and mandates related to government programs and services. In both courses, his knowledge of problem solving was outstanding, as well as his ability to apply critical thinking to the decisionmaking process. Finally, he showed the ability to perform research, and to interpret and express the results both orally and in writing. Mr. Tompkins is a mature, stable and responsible student, one who shows good judgment and academic stability. He is a hard worker and is willing to commit himself to the process of learning. I have no doubt that Mr. Tompkins will be an asset to our graduate program. I would rate him in the top 10% in relation to other students I have known at this level of education.
