LocationsThe location for the storyline ,which is the area where most of the key events happen, will be inside of Michaela’s house, where the friends will stay for the weekend and they find out that the house is haunted. This setting is conventional because it is a very ordinary and everyday house which will create a scare factor for the target audience because it makes them feel like the terrifying event could happen to them. It is a location that would be very unsuspecting for the target audience which creates shock and surprise which is essential for a horror film. Examples of horror films that use a similar locations are The Conjuring and The Haunting in Connecticut.

Another location for the horror film trailer will be the street outside of Michaela's house. This is effective because it relates to the everyday normal setting of the inside of Michaela’s house. This creates a correlation between the scenes and shows the film is set in similar localities. In this location the friends are shown to be walking down the street and Michaela revealing that she believes her house is haunted. This is a key event in the storyline as it is the basis for why the friends stay in the house in the first place, making it a very important location. This location will allow us to use ambient sound and natural lighting to create a more realistic and everyday area for the teenagers, making the trailer look more convincing.

PropsThe props that will be used throughout my storyline have been chosen to directly appeal to the horror film genre and the target audience. The props that we have considered include ticking clocks, picture frames, sharp knives, and objects with a religious connotation towards them. We have chosen these props because they are abundantly used in the psychological sub-genre, in films such as Paranormal Activity and Carrie. These props are also used to help create the dark, mysterious as paranormal atmosphere of the trailer.

CostumeThe costumes that the characters will wear will be casual teenage clothes to relate to their personality and the target audience of the film. These costumes also show that the characters are ordinary and normal which makes them unsuspecting victims of the paranormal being. This relates to the genre of horror because it shows the audience that this could happen to anyone, creating a scare factor. We would also use dark clothing to signify danger, death and darkness for the trailer which is highly conventional for a horror film trailer.

We will also use blood throughout the trailer when Sophie has been attacked and is in danger from James. This will connote that she is vulnerable and weak compared to James as he is possessed. Blood is a clear signifier of danger, distress and harm which is conventional for the horror film genre and also helps build tension throughout the trailer.

Personnel/CastingMichaela:

She is the main character in the storyline. She is a 17 year old sixth form student who believes her house to be haunted. She invites her 3 close friends to stay in the house to persuade them that her house is haunted and to prove ghosts exist. She is shown at the end of the trailer to be the last survivor as she is the only one still breathing.

James:

He is a 17 year old sixth form student who is one of Michaela’s close friends who is invited to stay at her haunted house, along with the other two characters, Sophie and Libby. James becomes possessed by the spirit and goes on to murder Libby and leaves Sophie to die.

Libby:

She is another one of Michaela’s close friends who is also 17 years old at sixth form. She was also invited into the haunted house for the weekend. Libby differs from Sophie and James because she is the character that believes that Michaela is right and that ghosts are genuinely real. Libby gets killed by James nearing the end of the trailer.

Sophie:

She is a 17 year old sixth form student also and a close friend of Michaela which means she is the fourth character in the house. Sophie is the character that is the most reluctant to believe anything of the supernatural and mocks Michaela for believing that ghosts are real. However, as the footage is revealed to show aspects of horror and paranormal beings, Sophie becomes the most scared and is the first to suggest that the leave the house immediately. Sophie is attacked by James as he is possessed by a demon and he leaves her to die in the house.
