Understanding the importance of acting in animation andhow to apply it to produce believable animation.

    Individual progression:

Did some refinement on characters (Ciel and Maya)

Decided which character to model in 3D.

Discussed on a rough storyline for the Gametrailer

    Ciel

Ciel is the main character in the

gametrailer and the game called The

    Art of Kayangan saga.

The initial designs of the characters

were done by game design students,

but we had to refine the characters

with optimum details so it will be easy

    to animate.

The main concept of the character

were kept as untouched as possible.

    Maya

Maya is an oracle according to the

game and she was designed using the

    concepts of Balinese dress.

She can absorb energy from plants

(Eion forest) to predict future or do

    certain types of magic.

She will be the first character to be

introduced to the audience in the

    gametrailer.

    Learning Elements in a story.

The importance of creating characters which you can connect with the

audience and to produce a story based on the characteristics of a certain

    character.

Starting a story with a picture of the character in extreme critical

condition and emotion can be helpful to decide the sequence of events

which might follow or were followed.

The storyboarding process will become easier and visualizing the idea

    would be fun.

    Individual progression:

    Sketching rough storyboard

Making sketches on characters in conflict to learn how to create a story

    based on the conflict

    Any more Ideas!

I drew a character, eating a light bulb.

He thought that bright ideas come

from light bulbs, because he always

    see that the symbolic representation

of an idea is often a bulb. Having

thought thats the source of all ideas,

he managed to bite a bulb only to get

    electrified.

    For the leak!

Another character is inspired by what

happens when you go to some of the

    public toilets.

Either you have to hold your leak due

to the condition of the toilet or you

    loose the leak.

But in rare cases, you also might

happen to jam your zip! How

    unfortunate.

Got to know the different ways of creating a story.

What are archetypes and the use of archetypes to portray

various types of characters to their fullest extent.

Learned how to make storyboard effectively bysubdividing sequences into beginning, middle and an end, then again sub-dividing them into a beginning, middleand an end to form a good understandable storyboard.

    Rough Sketch on sub-divided storyboard.

I took the Opening sequence of the Game trailer.

Did low resolution model of Ciel and discussed on the corrections to be

    made to the face.

    will help in animation.

    Individual Progression:

Made some adjustments to the Opening Sequence after consulting the

    lecturers.

Did some more on high-resolution (Ciel) model. (have problems withclothing and making hair)

Decided on modeling the Environment of the opening sequence (Eion

Forest) after discussing with group leader.

Completing Storyboard and Making Kayangan Saga Title

    Individual Progression:

Finished the overall storyboard in Photoshop. (with reference to handdrawn sketches by some of the group members)

Discussed with the lecturers on improvement of the scenes, cameramovement and angles.

Had to reduce the polygons on the main character since the characterwas initially made using Poser and then converted to an object for 3dsmax.

Made the Kayangan Saga Title sequence in After Effects

Suggestions by lecturers onimprovement of the storyboard

Suggestions given by Ms. Mylene and Mr. Ayub forstoryboard

Make a scene with camera from the super soldiers back when he is killing the

woman. Take out scenes 4 and 5 Change the angle of the camera to high in the boy cornered scene. Show the face of super soldiers in scene 7 Put some space between the girl and the environment when she is running Close up on the face on scene 3 Put a scene of mini-boss hitting the main character (camera behind mini-boss

    hands) to show his recoil

Though these suggestions were given, the changes were not implementedbecause the team leader decided not to and he wanted to move forward withthe storyboard we had finished in order to save time.

Suggestions by Team leader onCiels improvements

Suggestions given by Robin for Ciels changes

Use the human model I made last semester and make changes to it

    Nose shorter

    Eyes going up

    Leveled lips

    Smaller jawbones

I took the human model I made last semester and tried to implement these

changes as much as I could. Then started testing on ways to make hair for the

character, and also made some small changes to the clothes.

    Individual Progression:

    Got materials for texturing

After texturing, it was passed for rigging (for the 4 th time)

Had some problems with materials merging together when [Attach]objects were used

    Mr. Ayub fixed the problem

    Complete the Opening scene setup

Discussed with group leader if he wanted to fix the hair, and helped himwith fixing the way he wanted.

    Individual Progression:

Mr. Deric suggested to make the shadows sharper on scene oneand to use Daylight system for lighting

The test renders looked dark therefore returned back to previous

lighting but kept the shadows sharper this time.

Re-rendered the scene and applied the effects

First of all, to Allah, who made all things possible. Al'hamdhulillah.

A special thank goes to my helpful module facilitator, Ms. Mylene. The supervision and support that she gave

truly helped with the progression and smoothness of the production.

Mr. Ayub and Mr. Deric for the guidance in the production stages, storyline conceptualization and refining

elements of animation to give a better understanding of visual communication to the public. Furthermore, for their invaluable technical support throughout the process of production in 3D.

Mr. Marvy for his valuable time in opening the labs for our convenience even on holidays.

To all my group members for their persistent perseverance in the whole project endeavors, sleepless nights,to make it a successful and rnjoyable production.

My housemate for helping in render of some of the scenes. My family and friends for their support and love.
