This leaflet is part of the approved Product Label.

    DIRECTIONS FOR USE

IMPORTANT: This information is approved as part of the Product Label. All instructions within this section must be carefully read in order to obtain safe and successful use of this product.

GENERAL INFORMATIONQUILT XCEL contains the strobilurin fungicide azoxystrobin (Qol) and the triazole (DMI) propiconazole.

Azoxystrobin and other strobilurin analogues inhibit fungal respiration.

Propiconazole is a triazole (DMI) fungicide. Propiconazole is a systemic fungicide with protectant and curative properties.

QUILT XCEL shows good crop safety and is best used as a protectant treatment or in the earliest stages of disease development. RESTRICTIONSCertain apple varieties are highly sensitive to azoxystrobin. As a precaution QUILT XCEL should not be applied when there is a risk of spray drift onto neighbouring apple crops. Spray equipment used to apply QUILT XCEL to other crops should not be used to treat apples.

CROPS AND GROWING CONDITIONSFor use on maize for grain and forage. Apply QUILT XCEL under good growing conditions with adequate soil moisture. Avoid poor growing conditions which may give less reliable results.

DISEASE CONTROLLEDEyespot (Kabatiella Zeae) - USEFUL REDUCTIONLeaf blight (Helminthosporium spp.) - USEFUL REDUCTION

RATE OF USEApply QUILT XCEL at 1 Litre of product per hectare.

TIMINGThe onset, occurrence and severity of these diseases is difficult to predict. It is recommended to only treat sites that have a known history of disease when conditions are conducive for disease development and to consult with a specialist maize agronomist before application.

Always inspect crops to assess disease development immediately before spraying. QUILT XCEL should be applied in the earliest stages of disease development at any time from the beginning of stem elongation (BBCH 30) up until the end of flowering (BBCH 69). Only one application should be made to any one crop.

    APPLICATION

Spray QualityApply QUILT XCEL using a conventional fan nozzle producing a medium spray quality at as defined by the British Crop Protection Council. A spray pressure of 2-3 bars is recommended.

Spray VolumeQUILT XCEL is recommended to be applied in a water volume of 200-600 litres of water per hectare through conventional crop spraying equipment.

Mixing and SprayingMake sure the sprayer is set to give an even application at the correct volume.

Fill the spray tank with half the required volume of clean water and start agitation. Add the required amount of QUILT XCEL to the spray tank and continue agitatation whilst adding the rest of the water .

Agitate the mixture thoroughly before use and continue agitation during spraying. Thoroughly wash all spray equipment with water immediately after use.

Wash out containers thoroughly, preferably using an integrated pressure rinsing device, or manually rinse three times. Add washings to the sprayer at the time of filling. Complete filling to the required volume and continue to agitate throughout the spraying operation.

After SprayingDo not leave the spray liquid in the sprayer for long periods (such as during meal breaks or overnight).

Thoroughly wash out sprayer according to manufacturer’s guidelines and dispose of washings and clean containers according to DEFRA Code of Practice and local water authority guidelines.

RESISTANCE MANAGEMENT Do not apply in highly curative situations. You must not apply more than two foliar applications of Qol containing products to any maize crop.

In order to minimise the likelihood of the development and spread of resistance, the following guidelines should be followed:

    1. Use a full dose rate and avoid using QUILT XCEL as a highly curative application.2. Useage of partly resistant varieties or other cultural means, including where appropriate other fungicides with a different mode of action can reduce the disease pressure and therefore the selection of resistant isolates

Further information on resistance management strategies is available from the FRAG website.

The following recommendations for exposure controls/personal protection are intended for the manufacture, formulation and packaging of the product.

8.2 Exposure controlsEngineering Measures Containment and/or segregation is the most reliable technical protection measure if exposure cannot be eliminated. The extent of these protection measures depends on the actual risks in use. If airborne mist or vapours are generated, use local exhaust ventilation controls. Assess exposure and use any additional measures to keep airborne levels below any relevant exposure limit. Where necessary, seek additional occupational hygiene advice. Protective measures The use of technical measures should always have priority over the use of personal protective equipment. When selecting personal protective equipment, seek appropriate professional advice. Personal protective equipment should be certified to appropriate standards. Respiratory protection A particulate filter respirator may be necessary until effective technical measures are installed. Protection provided by air-purifying respirators is limited. Use a self-contained breathing apparatus in cases of emergency spills, when exposure levels are unknown, or under any circumstances where air-purifying respirators may not provide adequate protection. Hand protection Chemical resistant gloves are not usually required. Select gloves based on the physical job requirements. Eye Protection Eye protection is not usually required. Follow any site specific eye protection policies.
