Greener Results. Achieved at local community level, metroSTOR® makes household recycling easier and greenroof storage unit options bring biodiversity into the smallest of spaces.

WhymetroSTOR®?

Our modular product systems help your organisation resolve the challenges of outdoor storage. From waste and recycling containers, mobility scooter charging units to cycle parking.

Type-specific module sizes, configurable cladding and access control options make for easy-to-specify solutions that suit the most diverse and demanding ofsituations.

Fire risk is reduced by providing a safe, secure means of storage outside the dwelling, lowering fire load by removing sources of ignition and obstructions to escape routes.

Less fly-tipping and bulky waste, fewer contaminated bins and chute blockages for a significant reduction in operating costs.

Instead of hidden areas that encourage anti-social behaviour, you can now create structures that are attractive and welcoming. They invite use. Locating them where people walk will make users feel safe, residents will have homes and neighbourhoods that they can be proud of.

metroSTOR®. Tough. Configurable. Neat.

Their compact and unobtrusive form enables PBL units to be conveniently located close to entrances or in communal gardens, making them easily accessible to users. Designed to fit closely around standard two-wheeled bins, material can be loaded without opening the door, keeping the waste stream unit secure.

PBM units enclose your four wheeled waste and recycling bins leaving no space for refuse to be deposited outside of the receptacle provided. Warden or specific resident controlled door systems keep the bin secure while the door aperture and locking options prevent unauthorised usage or contamination of recyclables containers.

For communities with restricted access to bin areas, PBH bin rooms can be configured for your combination of wheeled and stacking bin types within a single secure enclosure. F Series PBH is designed for front loading of bins by residents, and the E series units for end loading where waste streams are warden controlled.

Greenroof Structures

Wild® Greenroof Systems can be specified on most types of metroSTOR® product. They provide a great opportunity to create pockets of biodiversity, bringing the enriching and enlightening natural world closer to our everyday lives within the same footprint as your storage unit.

The compact and unobtrusive design of our L and M Series units allow these to be conveniently located close to entrances or in communal gardens, greatly improving the visual appearance of the area without compromising accessibility for site users.

The Wild® sedum greenroof used on L and M Series units is an extensive system, meaning that it has a shallow substrate which is relatively lightweight and capable of supporting drought-tolerant species such as low-growing mosses and sedums. Installed as a pre-established turf, there are minimal establishment issues and on-going maintenance requirements are limited to annual weed removal.

H Series storage buildings with the WILD® greenroof system enable you to make a definitive visible statement on the commitment of your organisation to safeguarding our environment and its fragile ecosystems. The Wild® biodiverse greenroof used on the H Series storage buildings is an intensive system boasting wildflowers, particularly those native to calcareous grassland, along with sedums, giving a more diverse sward and greatly extended flowering season. The spectacular flower display is very attractive to bees and butterflies, and leaving the vegetation uncut during the winter provides a food source for seed- eating birds and shelter for a wide range of invertebrates.

Custom PanelConfigurator

The panel cladding system that makes possible effective, design-led outdoor storage solutions; FirenzePanel™ adds a unique, vibrant style to the durability and configurable benefits of metroSTOR® storage units.

At metroSTOR®, we do not believe there is any justification for outdoor storage areas that are so visually unattractive that they need to be hidden from view as this often attracts anti-social behaviour instead of the area being used for the purposes intended. In even the most deprived neighbourhoods, making such structures attractive and welcoming and locating them where people walk will invite use because this is somewhere people feel safe.

Traditionally, those inspiringly designed amenities have had to be bespoke, leading to such options being frequently avoided on the grounds of higher design and construction costs. FirenzePanel™ offers you a choice of stunning designs in laser-cut steel that can be powder coated in a range of finishes and even complemented with hardwood slats.

Taking FirenzePanel™ a step further; our innovative use of the laser-cutting process, CAD design talent and panel manufacturing knowledge can provide you with the freedom to recreate your own amazing design, safe in the knowledge that our team will advise and refine your panels for an on-time and within budget delivery.

"The units are cleverly designed and have enhanced

our external spaces. This enabled us to locate the

recycling bins at points where residents regularly pass,

encouraging correct usage."

Poole Housing Partnership Sterte Court, Poole

Poole Housing Partnership is an ALMO that was set up in 2004 to bring investment for improvements to over 5,200 homes across the Borough of Poole in Dorset. Having become one of the best performing housing organisations in the country, PHP now have the responsibility to help drive the development of new affordable homes, as well as the regeneration and improvement of estates in the town for the next 30 years.

PHP recently carried out a £7.5m refurbishment of two 10-storey 60 year old tower blocks in Poole. The award-winning project at Sterte Court included innovative fully enclosed balconies, self-cleaning windows, upgraded insulation, modern heating systems and roof-top solar panels to the tower blocks, has now been further enhanced with the addition of metroSTOR bin enclosures.

The refurbishment had been carried out to a very high standard and PHP recognised that there was a need to bring the provision for storage of waste and recycling bins up to the same level in order to eliminate issues that had previously caused harm to the amenities of local residents and generated unacceptably high levels of customer complaints.

Jon-Paul Elwart. PHP Building Surveyor, commented: “The units are cleverly designed and have enhanced our external spaces. This enabled us to locate the recycling bins at points where residents regularly pass, encouraging correct usage. There was a quick and painless installation, and our estates staff have only had to spend a very minimal amount of their time dealing with litter, bulky waste and fly-tipping – they really do work.”

Stonewater Plc Various locations throughout the UK

Stonewater came into being through the merge of Jephson and Raglan Housing Associations, making it one of the UK’s most significant social housing providers. With over 30,000 homes under management, Stonewater offer good quality, affordable housing to people whose needs are not met on the open market with a vision for everyone to have the opportunity to have a place they call home.

metroSTOR® were asked in 2013 to assist Raglan with the Rebranding Programme for their Retirement Living schemes and this has continued throughout the merge. To date our products have been a part of the provision of mobility scooter charging stations on over ten different schemes across the UK.

The project scope has now increased to cover everything from the preparation and submission of planning applications through to a snag-free project hand-over, including all DDA access works and electrical connections.

Glenn Loftus, Stock Improvement Project Manager at Stonewater, commented: “We have been using metroSTOR® charging stations on our sheltered schemes at Stonewater for two years now; we chose the units originally because the scalable concept allowed us to reduce costs by simply dropping in the required number of attractively-styled, robust modules to each scheme rather than designing a bespoke solution time after time. I am pleased to report that the units are performing very well and we have been particularly impressed with the high level of service given by metroSTOR® with their comprehensive installation package.”

The unscheduled removal of bulky waste is one of the

key costs London & Quadrant needed to get under

control; they reckoned that substantial savings could

be achieved if they could schedule a fixed-cost monthly

collection rather than having numerous unscheduled

weekly collections.

London & Quadrant Canterbury Grove, Lewisham

London & Quadrant is one of the UK's leading housing associations and one of London's largest residential developers, owning or managing over 70,000 homes in London and the South East. Its mantra is `creating places where people want to live’ and its success comes from a determination to maximise resident satisfaction, while at the same time growing its business responsibly.

Like all responsible social housing providers, every penny is invested back into providing more and better homes and services to residents. L&Q recently identified the unscheduled removal of bulky waste as being one of the key costs that they needed to get under control; they reckoned that substantial savings could be achieved if they could schedule a fixed-cost monthly collection rather than having numerous unscheduled weekly collections.

This, of course, would necessitate the provision of secure storage facilities at each scheme for bulky items, but the challenge was to restrict the use of these to L&Q tenants only, as there was evidence to suggest that in some cases they were unwittingly providing a free service to the whole street – a growing problem as more local councils introduce charges for the collection of bulky items.

Three blocks of flats in Streatham were generating a particularly high level of complaints and pressure from local Councillors to provide a solution lead to the selection of these as a pilot scheme. Despite being a relatively new development, the timber bin stores were insecure and in poor condition so those on the first block were replaced with secure PBM wasteSTOR enclosures for 2no 1100L general waste containers, 1no 1100L recyclables container along with a locker for bulky items. The initial trial proved to be very successful with a dramatic reduction in bulky waste so the enclosures have now been replaced on the two remaining blocks as well, with L&Q looking to introduce PBM wasteSTOR on a number of other schemes.

Oval Quarter, an award winning development of nearly 1000 new and refurbished homes in Lambeth, has seen 20no. cycleSTOR™ green roof cycle stores installed over the last three years to twenty, providing a total of 354 cycle spaces and 278m2 of green roof.

PRP Architects’ masterplan has created a dynamic and desirable new urban village with community facilities including new function hall, café and crèche, and has fulfilled its aims to substantially enhance the ecology of the area with a new central park as part of the exciting new public realm. metroSTOR® is proud to have made a significant innovative contribution to the biodiversity aims of the project, with PRP Architects having this to say:

“With biodiversity being high on the agenda of the Myatt’s Field North project as well as being integral to the Code for Sustainable Homes requirements, we required innovative ways of introducing biodiversity into the residential areas. It was then that the metroSTOR® cycle units with the greenroof option was chosen to not only provide green roofs to the cycle stores, but to ensure they integrated attractively into the environmental fabric of the area.”

The ability to specify a green roof product from a proven modular system reduces design time for architects and is more cost effective for clients. And if this isn’t enough of an advantage, the units are configurable to fit limited space on site or accommodate specific capacity requirements, and can be specified in a range of cladding and finish options to complement almost any architectural theme.
