OUR TECHNOLOGY Our CCST material is an advanced Carbon Fibre-Reinforced Ceramic (CFRC), produced by a proprietary Surface Transforms process. Conventional carbon-ceramic brake discs are made of discontinuous (chopped) carbon fibre pieces, whereas CCST material is a next generation carbon ceramic material, made of 3D, multi-directional, interwoven carbon fibre. Due to this process, CCST is a stronger and more durable product with 3x the heat conductivity of standard carbon ceramic materials; this keeps the brake system temperature down and the brake performance consistent. Our CCST material gives:

Weight savings of up to 70% over iron brakes (typically 20 kg of unsprung weight)

Improved handling and driveability Improved NVH (less noise, vibration and harshness) Improved performance in wet and dry conditions Reduced brake wear/increased brake life Corrosion free Outstanding performance, even from cold.

CCST material is used in all of our products, so these advantages are found across the product range.

Brake Pads Surface Transforms exclusively supply and recommend Pagid high performance brake pads. We have extensively tested RSC1 and RS29 brake pad materials to provide the optimum braking performance with CCST brake discs.

We recommend using Pagid RSC1 material for primarily road and occasional track use and Pagid RS29 material for track use alone.

DISCS VS. ROTORS The majority of our products are supplied as brake discs: a 2-piece, “floating” assembly consisting of both rotor and bell/hat. This enables direct fitment to the vehicle, replacing the OE part. Where necessary, upgrade kits also include caliper spacers and bolts to allow you to fit larger diameter discs to the vehicle. However, in certain applications, we are able to supply a replacement rotor only; these rotors require you to use the OEM bell/hat and fixings to connect the rotor to the vehicle. The drawings below illustrate the difference between a disc and a rotor.

Brake kits consist of an axle set (pair) of discs plus any necessary hardware required to fit the kit onto the car; for example, some of our upgrade kits use slightly larger rotors than those fitted by the OEM and so need calliper spacers to locate the calliper correctly. Brake kits do not include brake pads; these are sold separately to the kits.

Refurbishment With ST’s next generation brake disc material, it is possible to refurbish ST discs when standard carbon ceramic discs would need to be thrown away. ST brake discs can be refurbished up to 5 times in our facility in Ellesmere Port, UK. Surface Transforms does not recommend reassembly of discs by reusing disc hardware. If the returned disc uses ST hardware, replacement of disc hardware (not including the bell) is included; if the returned disc does not us ST hard-ware, some instructions for reassembly must be provided and ST will not guarantee the integrity of the disc hardware.
