Excavators Move Forward Cat Hydraulic Excavators have been the industry standard and have progressed again.

The Cat® 300 family of hydraulic excavators provide you with more working advan-tages, whether you need more digging depth, more power, greater reach, more lift capacity, higher breakout force or more swing torque. The extensive line of

machines from the mini through small, medium and large sizes ensures that there’s a Cat Hydraulic Excavator to fit your needs.

MINI HYDRAULIC EXCAVATORSCat offers a broad range of mini

hydraulic excavators, ranging from 13 to 65 horsepower, with blade widths from 28 to 91 inches. Stick digging forces range from 1,011 to 9,015 pounds, with bucket digging forces from 2,000 to more than 13,500 pounds.

Caterpillar® has raised the bar with its E2 Series excavators, which maintain the solid performance of their E Series pre-decessor while adding beneficial features. The new High Definition Hydraulic (HDH) system in the E2 machines provides a

load-sensing and flow-sharing capability to increase precision, efficient performance and controllability. The valve architecture reduces heat, lessening hydraulic instabil-ity and improving overall efficiency.

The redesigned operator station includes an improved ergonomic layout for operator comfort and productivity. A new interlocking front window system, updated operator interface controls and 100 per-cent pilot controls provide a best-in-class operator station.

All E2 models are equipped with a digital control panel — COMPASS, for Complete Operation, Maintenance, Performance and Security System. The COMPASS monitor includes an anti-theft system, an automatic engine-idle selec-tion that drops engine rpm to idle after 4 seconds of inactivity, and an adjustable auxiliary-flow control for work tools. Both mainline and optional secondary auxiliary-hydraulic systems can be adjusted through the monitor.

The E2 Series’ automatic two-speed feature allows the operator to put the machine in “high speed” and not worry about manually kicking down to low gear while turning, digging or roading in tough conditions.

MEDIUM HYDRAULIC EXCAVATORSThe line of medium-sized Cat Hydraulic

Excavators moved forward with the intro-duction of the F Series. For example, the 335F L CR delivers a 16 percent improve-ment in fuel efficiency compared to the 328D model it replaces.

The compact radius machine is made for heavy work on congested job sites. The 335F L CR limits over-the-side tail swing to just 7 inches; a heavy counterweight enhances overall stability and provides lift capacities up to 41,500 pounds. With efficient hydraulics, heavy-duty structures, a quiet and comfortable full-size cab, high-ambient cooling system, ground-level ser-vice points and a range of work tools, the 335F L CR is a strong, versatile machine for demanding jobsites.

The 192 horsepower C7.1 engine meets EPA Tier 4 Final emissions regula-tions without interrupting the operator or the job. Proven electronic, fuel, air, and after-treatment components ensure customer expectations for productivity, fuel efficiency, reliability and service life are met.

The 335F L CR’s powerful hydraulic system places major components in close proximity. This minimizes piping lengths and reduces frictional losses and pres-sure drops. The system delivers pre-cise flow volume where and when it is required. Combined with boom and stick regeneration circuits that re-duce the load on the main pumps, the unique Cat hydraulic system contrib-utes significantly to overall fuel savings.

The 335F L CR’s massive up-per frame, carbody and heavy-duty extended-length undercarriage are designed for durability and ensure an exceptionally strong, stable work platform for digging, lifting or attachment use. The heavy-duty reach boom and stick provide digging depths to nearly 23 feet.

The 335F L CR is just one of the op-tions available from your Cat dealer. Talk with your dealer representative to find the medium-sized excavator that’s right for you.

LARGE HYDRAULIC EXCAVATORSThe introduction of the F Series also

advances the line-up of large-size Cat Hydraulic Excavators. The 390F and 374F excavators use fuel-efficient Cat ACERT™ engines to meet U.S. EPA Tier 4 Final emissions regulations. These models build on the durability, reliability and performance of the D Series, and they reflect Cat’s F Series design criteria, which

for minimal operating costs, optimum operator comfort, easy serviceability and class-leading productivity.

The 390F burns up to 25 percent less fuel yet delivers the same level of production as the 390D it replaces. The 374F burns up to 15 percent less fuel and has the same production as the 374D it replaces.

Fuel-saving features include two power modes, high horsepower or economy, to allow the operator to select an engine operating speed to match the application. In addition, an on-demand power system adjusts engine speed to match the ma-chine’s operating load, and an engine idle shutdown system stops the engine after it idles a pre-set interval. These systems also significantly extend service intervals.

New for the F Series models is the Cat Adaptive Control System (ACS) valve, which electronically manages flows and restrictions to exactly match hydraulic response to joystick movement. This fuel-saving feature smoothes hydraulic functions and adds to overall hydraulic ef-ficiency. The new models can be equipped with auxiliary hydraulic circuits.

Structural durability is ensured by the proven heavy-duty construction of the mainframe and undercarriage.

PRODUCT FOCUS 13

HYBRID EXCAVATOR ADVANCES

The Cat® 336F H Hybrid hydraulic excavator is now powered by a EPA Tier 4 Final compliant C9.3 ACERT engine. This unique machine features an integrated design that conserves fuel, optimizes performance and cap-tures and reuses energy. The design delivers estimated fuel savings of up to 30 percent compared with the standard 336 counterpart — with no compromise in performance nor added maintenance costs.

The inherent fuel efficiency of the C9.3 is enhanced with an auto-matic engine speed control (lowers engine rpm during no-load/light-load conditions), an engine idle shutdown system (stops the engine after a pre-set idling interval), and an ECO mode that allows operators to tailor machine performance to the applica-tion. The engine also runs efficiently on biodiesel blends up to B20.

The 336F H’s Electronic Stan-dardized Programmable (ESP) hydraulic pump saves significant fuel by integrating the machine’s power sources and matching engine perfor-mance to the load encountered. The unique Cat Adaptive Control System (ACS) valve seamlessly controls machine motion and ensures that hydraulic power is available precisely where and when it is required.

The system also uses the Cat Swing Energy Recovery (SER) valve to capture kinetic energy from the 336F H’s swing deceleration, storing it for reuse. The machine’s kinetic en-ergy is converted to hydraulic energy that is available to assist the swing motor during swing acceleration.

Maximizing VersatilityCat Wheel Excavators bring flexibility and reliability to the job.

Cat® Wheel Excavators have the mobility, speed, power and reli-ability to be the most versatile ma-

chines in your fleet. The choices include three Cat engines ranging from 128 to 169 horsepower, with drawbar pull from 17,085 pounds to 25,179 pounds and maximum travel speeds from 15.6 to 23 miles per hour.

Stick options range from 6 feet, 7 inches to 10 feet, 10 inches. Cat also offers wheel excavators with material handling equipment options, so there’s sure to be a Cat Wheel Excavator to fit your application.

After Caterpillar® solicited customer input on characteristics considered important, the F Series models were designed around the goals of initial qual-ity and reliability, low operating costs, operator comfort and safety, simplicity of operation and maintenance, durability and environmental friendliness.

Cat also retained the best features of predecessor models, including the

Cat Smartboom™, ride control, load-sensing hydraulics, dedicated swing pump, hydraulically driven cooling fan, large working envelope, and configura-tion/work-tool versatility.

EASE OF OPERATIONAn automatic system, when

enabled by the operator, senses ma-chine parameters and locks the axle-oscillation function and sets the service brakes, readying the machine to dig. This reduces operator fatigue by remov-ing the need to constantly press the brake pedal. Brake and axle lock are au-tomatically released when the operator presses the travel pedal. Cruise control is a standard feature allowing the opera-tor to choose the speed he wants.

Versatility being one key attribute of wheel excavators, operators can adjust the machine to the task and to personal preference; hydraulic pressures and flows for work tools can be easily adjusted.

PRODUCT FOCUS 15

TRACK-TYPE TRACTORS

Ask your dealer representative about these dozer features: • Automatic Traction Control reduces

track slippage under maximum load conditions. This feature automatically adjusts to keep the machine mov-ing steadily, minimizing the need to continually adjust the blade to prevent stalling. The results are more consis-tent grades, reduced operator fatigue and improved undercarriage life.

• Slope Indicate accurately displays the machine’s blade cross-slope direction, as well as its main-fall (fore/aft) direc-tion, eliminating guesswork.

• Slope Assist helps achieve the required main-fall by automatically maintain-ing pre-established blade angles. Consistent grades are attained more quickly with the system, fill materials are conserved, and less-experienced operators are more productive.

• Eco Mode improves fuel economy up to 20 percent by reducing engine speed in less-demanding conditions. Two settings, forward/reverse or re-verse only, are selected via the rotary throttle, and Eco Mode then controls engine speed at optimum levels.

• Stable Blade Control complements the operator’s blade-control input for finer control and more consistent grades.

• Power Pitch allows the operator to adjust blade pitch hydraulically on the go: more aggressive forward angles for loading the blade, less-severe rear-ward angles to carry the load. Power Pitch can boost productivity as much as an estimated 6 percent.

• Electro-Hydraulic Maps allow the op-erator to set the blade response level to suit personal preferences or to

tailor the machine to the type of work being done.

• Enhanced Auto Shift enables the operator to select the optimum ground speed for heavy- and light-duty applications. With Enhanced Auto Shift activated, the Bi-Directional Shift system allows pre-setting forward/re-verse gear ranges, saving the operator from repetitively making this selection with each directional change.

D7E NOW EVEN BETTER

The Cat D7E dozer, introduced in 2009, uses an innovative diesel-electric power train to deliver up to 30 percent better fuel efficiency and 10 percent more production than its D7R2 predecessor.

Now the D7E, which meets U.S. EPA Tier 4 Final emission standards, has been upgraded with addition of three new productivity-boosting features:• Stable Blade Control automati-

cally adjusts the blade for more precise grades.

• Traction Control senses track slip and makes instantaneous blade adjustments, resulting in greater productivity with less under-carriage wear.

• Slope Indicate provides a constant visual readout of the machine’s mainfall and cross slope for real-time grade and slope guidance without a dedicated grade control system.

There is no need to settle for anything less than the standard-setting quality of Caterpillar® when

you need a wheel loader. Caterpillar builds a broad line of wheel loaders, ensuring that there’s a machine to fit your jobsite challenges. Your Cat® dealer representative can help you choose the wheel loader that’s best for you.

COMPACT WHEEL LOADERS

Compact Cat Wheel Loaders range in power from 40 to 96 net horsepower, with operating weights from 9,150 to 17,910 pounds. Bucket capacities range from 0.8 to 3.3 cubic yards.

The new Cat M Series Compact Wheel Loaders — 906M, 907M and 908M — feature a Cat C3.3B, 75-gross horsepower engine with an electronically controlled hydrostatic drive system that meets US EPA Tier 4 Final / EU Stage IIIB emission standards. Electro-Hydraulic

controls allow for engineering enhance-ments for the drive system, implement controls, auxiliary hydraulic system and loader linkage.

Like the M Series, the 910K and 914K models introduced last year feature Caterpillar’s exclusive Optimized Z-bar loader linkage, allowing these models to work with the digging power of conven-tional Z-bar machines while providing the parallel-lift of an integrated tool carrier. Both the 910K and 914K are EPA Tier 4-Interim compliant, use the Cat Hystat hydrostatic drive system and feature newly designed cabs. High-lift booms, couplers and a range of work tools, in-cluding Cat Performance Series buckets, are available, ensuring optimum versatility and productivity.

The 910K and 914K are available with an Integrated Tool Carrier coupler, com-patible with legacy IT Cat work tools as well as the Cat ISO coupler, designed to work with a full range of Cat Performance Series buckets, optimized ISO pallet forks and certain competitive attachments.

SMALL WHEEL LOADERS

Cat Small Wheel Loaders provide su-perior performance with fast cycle times and versatility to help get more done. Ranging from 141 to 182 net horsepower, they have operating weights from 28,360 to 36,156 pounds and bucket capacities are available from 2.5 to 6.5 cubic yards.

The new Cat M Series Small Wheel Loaders — 926M, 930M and 938M — build on the success of K Series predeces-sor models with engineering refinements that include new engines meeting Tier 4 Final emission standards and new options and features that further enhance value, operator comfort and safety.

All three new models have in-creased engine power and higher tip loads for improved performance. A new Cat C7.1 ACERT™ engine powers the three new wheel loaders and has a clean emissions module that requires no operator intervention and causes no disruption of work cycles. The module uses a fit-for-life diesel particulate filter (DPF) and a selective catalytic reduction system, which requires only the addition of diesel exhaust fluid.

The step-less, four-range, electroni-cally controlled hydrostatic drive system has been enhanced to include operator

selected power-train modes, including a conventional Hystat mode with aggressive engine braking, refined torque converter mode allowing the machine to free wheel down hills and around grades, and an ice mode to maximize control in slippery underfoot conditions. Testing shows that the torque converter mode can save up to 5 percent additional fuel in load-and-carry applications.

The patented Generation II Optimized Z-bar loader linkage on the M Series mod-els delivers the performance and breakout forces of a traditional Z-bar linkage with the parallelism and load-handling capability of a tool carrier. Higher tipping load ratings for the M Series small wheel loader models, versus the K Series, also allow the new models to comfortably handle heavier payloads.

MEDIUM WHEEL LOADERS From the 950M through the 982M,

Cat medium-sized wheel loaders range from 230 to 392 net horsepower. Operat-ing weights vary from 42,357 to 78,382 pounds, with bucket capacities available from 3.25 all the way to 16 cubic yards.

The newest additions to the line — the 950M and 962M, both powered by

PRODUCT FOCUS 19

a Cat C7.1 ACERT™ engine that meets Tier 4 Final emissions standards — are significantly more powerful than their K Se-ries predecessors and deliver 10 percent better fuel efficiency.

The new models feature major drive-train refinement, extensively redesigned hydraulic systems, new cab amenities, electronic payload measure-ment, Optimized Z-Bar linkage that combines optimized bucket performance with parallel lift, and a range of Cat Performance Series buckets and work tools. These innovative systems intelligently lower the average working engine speeds and reduce the overall system heat loads, which results in sig-nificantly improved performance and fuel efficiency.

With a net rating of 230 horsepower, the new 950M produces 9 percent more power than its K Series counterpart, and the 962M, rated at 250 horsepower, has 13 percent more power. Peak torque is up an average 18 percent for the new models, which means more useable power at the wheels. In addition, the new, productive Economy Mode auto-matically senses power-train load and adjusts engine speed and torque for opti-mum performance and fuel efficiency.

Caterpillar-developed electronic, fuel, air and after-treatment technologies ensure that emissions control is trans-parent to the operator, does not interrupt machine operation, and promotes reli-ability, high productivity and low operat-ing costs.

The 950M and 962M hydraulic systems have significant design changes and customer value improvements. The main hydraulic valve is now a mono-block

with an integrated ride control section. The mono-block design reduces weight, has forty percent fewer leak points and is common across all M Series models. Auxiliary third and fourth hydraulic func-tions can be easily added at the factory or in the field with the addition of a second remote valve.

LARGE CAT LOADERS

Caterpillar also offers large-sized wheel loaders, including the 986H, 988K, 990H, 990K, 992K, 993K, 994H and 994K. horsepower, with operating weights from 34,381 to 61,857 pounds and general-purpose bucket widths from 8 feet to 9.5 feet.

Caterpillar® has introduced a new series with the 963K, which uses Eco Mode to automatically reduce engine speed while maintaining selected ground speed when the machine is under light load. The more efficient engine and the Eco Mode combine to deliver a 10 to 30 percent reduction in fuel consumption compared to the 963D.

The 963K is powered by a 193 horse-power Cat C7.1 ACERT™ engine and meets EPA Tier 4 Final emissions stan-dards. An optional high-retention bucket can move 5 percent more material per hour. The machine can be ordered with an optional Fusion™ Quick Coupler to allow easy use of forks, buckets, etc. from wheel loaders and other Fusion-compatible machines.

INNOVATIVE UNDERCARRIAGEThe 953D and 963D feature the

SystemOneTM undercarriage designed

exclusively for Cat machines to reduce operating costs, downtime and mainte-nance intervals. The revolutionary sys-tem provides maximum undercarriage life and reliability.

The shoes for SystemOne™ are unique. Several track shoe types tailor your machine for work in all underfoot conditions. The sprockets can be reused over the life of a couple of undercarriages to cut replacement costs.

The 973D Track Loader is the only track loader in this size class. Its design delivers strength and durability with excellent control and unmatched ease of operation.

The undercarriage on the 973D features an oscillating track roller frame design that decreases ground shock to the machine, increases machine stability and provides a smoother, more com-fortable ride for the operator. Track link design consists of specially heat-treated steel forgings to increase link life and lower owning and operating costs.

Cat track loaders are also offered in configurations specially designed for the challenges of wastehandling and ship/port applications.

Rugged and EfficientTechnology helps Cat Motor Graders do more with less fuel.

Cat® Motor Graders have earned their reputation for world-class cabs and controls, advanced elec-

tronics and hydraulics, and optimum productivity in any application.

The M Series 3 adds the latest emissions reduction technology to the most durable, productive and comfort-able graders on the market. These mod-els offer greater fuel efficiency, more operator comfort and safety features, as well as enhanced serviceability.

TIER 4 FINAL COMPLIANTM Series 3 motor graders meet

U.S. EPA Tier 4 Final/EU Stage IV emis-sion standards using emissions reduc-tion technology that is designed to be transparent, with no action required by the operator. There is no need to stop for regeneration.

The system features the proven Caterpillar aftertreatment solution with the addition of Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR). SCR uses Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF), which can be

conveniently filled from ground level when the machine is fueled. Because of improved fuel economy over Tier 4 Interim and efficient use of DEF, M Series 3 motor graders deliver excellent overall fluid efficiency.

INTEGRATED TECHNOLOGYA new standard Economy (ECO)

Mode can be turned on to help save fuel by reducing engine speed so the machine works in a more efficient range. The average fuel savings is up to 10 percent.

M Series 3 motor graders also take full advantage of integrated technology. They are equipped with Product Link™, which helps fleet owners track location, hours, fuel use, productivity, idle time and diagnostic codes through the online VisionLink® interface. M Series 3 machines also offer optional grade technologies like Cat Grade Control Cross Slope and Cat AccuGrade™ to help operators work more efficiently and accurately.
