Prominence HPLCBuilding on the success of the VP Series, Prominence delivers evenmore accurate and reproducible data while maintaining the flexibility forwhich Shimadzu HPLC instrumentation is known. The modular components interact with the precision of an integrated system whileallowing innumerable configurations–letting you design the system that best fits your needs. Central to the system is the CBM-20A, a single-point controller offering instrument control and monitoring throughyour web browser. The innovative design of the zero-sample-loss SIL-20 autosampler has virtually eliminated carryover without sacrificing the speed demanded by high-throughputlaboratories, offering a cycle time of just 10 seconds.Three pump models are available in the Prominence line, including theLC-20AB, a binary pump combining two of the LC-20AD dual micro-plunger pumps in a space-saving design. For a quaternary pumpingsystem, the new gradient elution valve is installed directly in the pump, reducing delay volumes and saving valuable bench space. The UVdetectors have been refined to be the world’s most sensitive detectorswith unmatched noise and drift specifications (ASTM Methods) and alinearity increase to 2.5AU. A standard temperature-controlled flow cell, improved optical components, and new signal processing technologies combine to yield this exceptional performance. TheProminence Photo Diode Array detector shares these enhancementswith the UV series and results in the world’s most sensitive PDA with linearity to 2.0AU. Forced air column ovens (85°C max temp), high-pressure column switching valves, and low-volume (<400 μL) vacuum degassersare all part of the Prominence series.

Prominence UFLCXR and Shim-pack XR-ODSII(Ultra Fast Liquid Chromatograph)Prominence UFLCXR and Shim-pack XR-ODSII have been developed torealize high speed and ultra high resolution. The new products arecompatible with high speed analysis using high viscosity mobile phase suchas water/methanol combination, and respond to a broader range of highspeed and high resolution applications. The biggest feature of theProminence UFLCXR is, keeping superior basic performance forrepeatability, low sample carryover and high sensitivity, in its maximumapplicable pressure 66MPa from 35 MPa in the Prominence UFLC system.Shim-pack XR-ODSII released at the same time also had its withstandpressure improved to 60 MPa inheriting concept of particle size 2.2um of theexisting Shim-pack XR-ODS, and 150mm length column for ultra highseparation is added to the line-up.

The LC-2010HT Series HPLC includes two fully integrated models: the LC-2010AHT for ambient and the LC-2010CHT for temperature-controlled samples. Sample injections can be made in as little as 15seconds with excellent carryover performance. Injection accuracy isless than 0.3% RSD. Increased capacity is provided for 1 mL, 1.5 mL, and 4 mL vials, plus 4 x 96 or 384-well titer plates. Setup andoperation have been simplified, with an advanced Graphical UserInterface (GUI) enabling analytical conditions to be set intuitively. Thebuilt-in validation functions save time, effort, and money by reducingoperator interaction during IQ, OQ, and PM functions. System stabilityperformance features can all be automatically checked and loggedusing the standard auto-validation routine.

HPLC Autosamplers• SIL-HTThe SIL-HT combines the extraordinary autosampler from the LC-2010HT with the full-featured VP series system controller. With its high capacity, the SIL-HT increases lab efficiency while its reduced injection time of ~15 sec for a 10 μL injection can increase thethroughput of many labs. Cross contamination is reduced by incorporating nontraditional wetted materials and a patented platinumneedle coating to reduce carryover–even with the most basic andhydrophobic compounds.

The ion trap is used to focus ions, provide multiplelevels of fragmentation, and function as an electronic gate to dischargeall ions into the TOF. It supports fragmentation, MSn analysis and a highprecursor ion selection (resolution > 1,000 at 1,000 m/z). Using theinformation rich MSn data, the new patent pending Formula Predictorsoftware identifies unknowns with greater certainty. Fast polarityswitching, combined with Compressed Ion Injection, Ballistic IonExtraction, and improved Dual-Stage Reflectron technology, creates atrue benchmark for biomarker discovery, metabolite identification, andnatural products research.

The Prominence system can be configured with a Shimadzu MassDetector, including any of the LCMS-2010 series instruments. Theincorporation of the MS allows anyone to easily use LC/MS for walk-awayanalysis of organic synthesis products. In an analytical mode, the LC/MScan be programmed for automatic operation and set to scan the desiredmass range. The system is available in several versions to allow forsimple analysis for compound confirmation, or with a Mass SamplingHPLC System for mass-directed or mass-informed fraction collection.

Shimadzu’s preparative LC/MS, using mass numbers as a trigger, precisely isolates target compounds, making it ideal for performinginvestigation and research of natural and synthetic compounds. OptionalPsiPort™ Software allows researchers to verify and purify synthesisedcompounds by simply entering the sample information, and alsoincorporates sample tracking and “open access” functions.

Wet Chemical TOC-VW Shimadzu’s TOC-VW can be operated as a UV/Persulfate TOC, aHeated/Persulfate TOC, or as a unique Heated-UV-Persulfate TOCsystem. The three oxidation methods ensure rapid breakdown of difficult-to-oxidize compounds and shorter analysis time. The analyser canhandle particulates up to 1.6 mm in diameter, the largest for anycommercial analyser. The TOC-VW has the lowest detection limit (0.5ppb) for any laboratory TOC on the market. The newly designed NDIRdetector has five orders of magnitude linearity. Over-range samples canbe compared with up to three calibration curves automatically.

On-line Analysers: Total Nitrogen/TOC• TOC-4110 • TN-4110 • TOCN-4110• TOC-VCSH • TNPC-4110

The TOC-4110 Series includes one model dedicated for TOC, one forTN, and one that can simultaneously measure both TOC and TN. TheSeries offers a number of capital as well as operational cost-reducingfeatures. A single unit can analyse up to seven different streams. Theoptional “Sample Thief” eliminates the need for expensive filters whenanalysing particulated sample streams. The on-board air purifier eliminates the need for expensive and dangerous gas cylinders andpermits standard house air to be used as the carrier gas. For TOC/TNanalysers, the proven combustion oxidation method eliminates the needfor chemicals and reduces maintenance requirements. An online version of its powerful TOC-Vc Series Analysers, the TOC-VCSH is a process-type TOC that can simultaneously measureTOC and TN, with an optional TNM module. The unit enables automaticmultipoint calibration from a single standard, and is equipped with adetection limit of 4 ppb and measurement capability up to 25,000 ppm.Existing TOC-Vc lab units can be upgraded to the Online TOC-Vc.Incorporating many of the capital and operational cost-reducing features, the TNC-4110C Series Analysers are capable of measuring TN,and TOC in water.
