The canopy & track kits are known as our “Forester” models

and are offered in three track styles:

1. Forester“standard” double-sided trackOur standard double-sided track is ideal for a quick retro-fit to attach canopies to anexisting structure by mounting independently underneath existing rafters. Trackplacement is not critical and canopies widths are typically our standard 60” or 46”widths, but custom widths are available. Tracks are available in white, black or taupe.

2. Forester single-sided “strip” trackOur strip track is popular when starting from scratch if you are designingyour own pergola or shade structure and want to create more of a customlook. Simply space your rafters based on our standard 60”, 46” or 30” widths.Canopies can be custom-cut so they fit your specific needs. Tracks are avail-able in white, black, beige or taupe.

3. Forester“under-beam-mounted”double-sided track

The “under-beam-mounted” double-sided track provides a third mountingoption where there is an existing structure and it is desirable to minimize thenumber of tracks and canopies so they align with existing rafters, When thespacing between beams is narrow, track can be mounted to skip some beams al-lowing for wider canopy widths. Canopies can be custom-cut so they fit your spe-cific needs. Tracks are available in white, black or taupe.(Our in-house design department can create a CAD drawing to show exact alignment & canopy widths sothat tracks fit perfectly to the bottom of your beams.)

It is important that the tracks remain straight, with consistent spacing between the beams. Therefore, whenusing wood beams, it is suggested to use no smaller than 4” x 6” dry lumber to prevent warping thatwill affect the performance of the retractable canopies. (Cedar wood is the most reliable and attractive.)

The Forester - Under-Beam double-sided track option

Ideal for existing pergolas. The width of the beams is not as critical for successful operation with this tracksystem as it is with the Strip Track system. When measuring for an Under-Beam application, it is imperative tomeasure the center-to-center of EACH BEAMacross the entire pergola. Most pergolas have variations inthe beam spacing, and very few are actually built to the original specifications. ShadeTree Canopy systemshave a .25” tolerance in the track/beam spacing; any spacing beyond .25” tolerance wll hinder the operation ofthe canopy system. 6

Bottom Cross Member• Aluminum tube that support the canopy fabric between the tracks.

ROLLER SLEEVE LOCKING TABS

All Canopy Rollers are locked in theBottom Cross Member by the RollerSleeve Locking Tab and can be removed by pushing the Tab into the Cross Member witha screw driver and pulling on Roller - see photo.

Top Cross Member• Plastic piece that clamps the fabric to Bottom Cross Members.

• Rivets secure black Top Cross Members (or whiteones that have come loose with age).

• Must be installed at the factory.

Handle• Aluminum bar attached to outermost/extended end of the canopy to extend and retract

• Standard (max) length is 18”; can be shortened.

• A Sky Hook is used to operate high installations that put handle out of reach.

Roller Assemblies•On the ends of each Cross Member except the first and last.

Q Is the ShadeTree® System available in differentwidths?

A Yes. The ShadeTree System can be made to cover anywidth of an area needed by simply adding more canopy

sections. Standard sizes are 60” (the most shade for themoney), 46”, and 30” fabric widths. Special custom widths be-tween 24” and 59” are available at no additional cost.

Q How long can the canopies span (project)?

A The maximum recommended projection for most modelsis 21’; the aluminum models can span 24ft. Longer projec-

tions can be achieved by erecting a support system (a header)at the end of one set of tracks, and installing a second set ofcanopies to extend the span. Strip Tracks can span howeverlong a beam can span.

QWill the system ever rust or discolor?

A No. The aluminum tracks are made of heavy-guage, ex-truded aluminum, with a handsome powder-coated fin-

ish. The hardware is made of rugged resin, which has beenstabilized to prevent yellowing or breakdown. The vinyl sys-tems are UV-treated to maintain true color indefinitely and isvirtually maintenance-free.

Q Is there a warranty on the ShadeTree® Canopy Sys-tem?

A The system’s posts and tracks are warranted for 10 yearsagainst breakage following installation. Hardware is

warranted for three years. Fabrics have a warranty for fiveyears against fading and mildew. (Warranty value is “pro-rated”based on invoice date.)

QWhat keeps the canopies from being damaged ingusting winds?

A A special, patented wind-release mechanism is used oneach section of canopy. If extended during strong winds,

the canopies will be released from the mechanism so they canfloat freely in the tracks to minimize the risk of damage.

QWill the canopies keep the rain off the patio?

A No. ShadeTree Canopies are designed for shade. Themesh fabrics, which allow cool breezes to flow through

them, also allow water to penetrate. The solid and stripedfabrics will not allow water to shed through, therefore thespace below will remain dry, but there will be small spacesbetween the sections where will come through. In a lightrain, the solid-woven fabrics will stave off the water, butheavy rain and wind blow in from the sides.

Q Since the canopies are flat, will they collect rainwater?

A The wind protection mechanism will release thecanopies with the weight of the rain and allow the rain

to easily run off the edges and protect them from damage.. . . . . . . . . . . . .

Q Can the canopies be removed for winter storage or forcleaning?

A Yes. Simply loosen the Top Lock Brackets and RollerLocks, and the canopies quickly and easily roll out of the

tracks. The tracks and structure remain up year-round.. . . . . . . . . . . . .

QWhat if retracted canopies hang down in front of adoor, window, etc?

A Additional Roller Locks are used to fix the last fabricpanel (next to the house) in a permanently extended

position. This keeps the canopy from retracting against thehouse to allow for clearance of obstacles. Additional RollerLocks must requested when ordering. A grommet hole isadded to the last fabric panel to allow for rain drainage. The“fold” or “drop” of the fabric can also be shortened by addingcross member(s) to the canopy to allow for clearance.

Q If I make a small mistake in measuring the length ofthe tracks, how do we fix it?

A We’ve designed a special “extender bracket” for eachtrack to accommodate errors up to 11⁄2 inches, plus or
