In this document is present all the vocabulary with which it will be a support for the best development of the subject of Advanced English and its various units.

UNIT 10- TOURISM BOOK-HOTELS AND CATERING BOOK

-Breakfast Service- How do you pay?

1.PAYMENT

A payment is an amount of money that is paid to someone, or the act of paying this money. 

-My father realize your payment to bank each month.

 

2.HOLIDAYMAKER

A holidaymaker is a person who is away from their home on holiday.

-The worrying thing for holidaymakers and travel agents is the cut back on flights by major tour operators.

3.DROP

 If you drop something, you accidentally let it fall.

-I dropped my glasses and broke them.

4.TRAVELER’S CHECK

A medium of exchange that can be used in place of hard currency. Travelers' checks are often used by individuals who are traveling on vacation to foreign countries.

-Travelers checks is necessary to travel to other country for a tourist.

5. CASH

Legal tender or coins that can be used in exchange goods, debt, or services.

- After buy a cell phone, a gift for my girlfriend and go to the cinema, I know that spend a lot of money in one day.

6.DEBIT CARD

A payment card that deducts money directly from a consumer’s checking account to pay for a purchase.

-Some people track every penny they spend, whether by cash, credit or debit card.

7.PAMPHLET

A small booklet or leaflet containing information or arguments about a single subject.

-Booklets and information pamphlets will also be handed out and emergency personal will be on hand to answer any questions.

8.WITHDRAW

Remove or take away (something) from a particular place or position.

- Ruth forgot to withdraw your clothes of the wash machine.

9.CHARGE CARD

A card that charges no interest but requires the user to pay his/her balance in full upon receipt of the statement.

-It seems the department store consumer, armed with a charge card and a credit card.

10. GIFT STORE

A shop that sells miscellaneous articles appropriate as gifts,  a mercantile establishment for the retail sale of goods or services.

-He bought a toy in a gift store for yours birthday.

11.STORE CLERK

A person employed to represent a business and to sell its merchandise (as to customers in a store or to customers who are visited).

-I work as store clerk in Mall of Andes.

12.IDENTIFICATION

The action or process of identifying someone or something or the fact of being identified, it can be with a document.

-Each people must have yours identification personal or Id.

13.PERSONAL CHECK

A check drawn against funds deposited in your personal checking account.

-He paid all his bills by personal check.

14.TRANSACTION

The act of transacting or the fact of being transacted. Something transacted, especially a business agreement or exchange.

-In an ordinary commercial transaction a delivery date is essential

15.CHECKING ACCOUNT

A bank account in which checks may be written against amounts on deposit.

 

-In a company is important have a checking account for the economy.

16.MONEY MATTERS

Issues concerning finances or money, esp your own finances or money.

 

-He carried no cash or card as his staff attended to all money matters for him.

17.BUFFET

A counter where light refreshments are served, a meal at which guests help themselves from a number of dishes and often eat standing up.

-Buffet is my favourite site for eating when i´m starving.

18.SCRAMBLED EGGS

Eggs cooked and fix served in a dish or a cup.

19.VOUCHER

A document serving as evidence for some claimed transaction, as the receipt or expenditure of money.

- Unior season-ticket holders must exchange their vouchers for a ticket.

20.BRUNCH

A late morning meal eaten instead of breakfast and lunch.

-Located bang on the waterfront, it's a restaurant in the day serving up hearty breakfasts, brunches , lunches and dinners.

21.PANCAKES

A thin, flat cake of batter, usually fried and turned in a pan. Pancakes are usually eaten with syrup or rolled up with a filling.

-I cook risotto and cakes, puddings and pancakes .

22.COUPON

A voucher entitling the holder to a discount for a particular product.

-The current rates are $5 per day, $28 per week and a reduced fee if the customer uses available discount coupons .

23. BREAKFAST SERVICE

The act when a waitress or waiter serve breakfast to a customer in a restaurant.

 

-In restaurant” El Dorado” exist a good breakfast service.

24.REFILL

An act of filling a container again.

-Every time she leaned over to refill their coffee cups, her breasts stayed where they were.

25.GRATUITY

A tip given to a waiter, taxicab driver, etc..

-However, a special gratuity paid to a driver, for example at Christmas, may not be taxable.

26.PASTRY

A dough of flour, shortening, and water, used as a base and covering in baked dishes such as pies.

-To make the basic suet pastry , sift the flour, baking powder and salt together, then rub in the suet.

A list of dishes available in a restaurant.

-The waiter must know all the menu in a restaurant while he work in a restaurant.

30.RESTAURANT

A place where people pay to sit and eat meals that are cooked and served on the premises.

-On the camp site is a well stocked shop and a restaurant , that also serves takeaway dishes.

31.BEVERAGE

A drink, especially one other than water.

-In this country each individual is free to decide whether or not to drink alcoholic beverages .

32.MEAL

Any of the regular occasions in a day when a reasonably large amount of food is eaten, such as breakfast, lunch, or dinner.

-Already they knew the food for the evening meal was ready.

33.HOSTESS

A woman who receives or entertains guests.

 

My sister worked as hostess for two years.

34.ISSUED

An important topic or problem for debate or discussion, the action of supplying or distributing an item for use, sale, or official purposes.

35.UPGRADE

An act of upgrading something, raise (something) to a higher standard, in particular improve (equipment or machinery) by adding or replacing components.

A password is a secret word or string of characters that is used for user authentication to prove identity personal.

A keypad is a set of buttons arranged in a block or "pad" which usually bear digits, symbols and usually a complete set of alphabetical letters.

51.COCKTAIL

An alcoholic drink consisting of a spirit or several spirits mixed with other ingredients, such as fruit juice, lemonade, or cream.

-I drink cocktail called “Vodka tonik” bacause is delicious all weekend in a bar.

A person who mixes and serves drinks at a bar.

-They also say changing the system will allow unscrupulous bartenders to water down drinks.

Is an alcoholic beverage made from fermented grapes or other fruits.

-Red wine is excellent for a romantic dinner.

Pale yellowish wine made from white grapes or red grapes with skins removed before fermentation.

- My grandfather hate white wine, he said that it have bad taste.

A large container, typically earthenware, glass, or plastic, with a handle and a lip, used for holding and pouring liquids.

-Carrying a glass pitcher full of dark-brown liquid, with a healthy head of foam on it, he places it and two drinking bowls before us.

56.HAPPY HOUR

A period of the day when drinks are sold at reduced prices in a bar or restaurant.

-They ask new licensed premises to adhere to conditions which outlaw happy hours and other heavy price discounts which encourage binge drinking.

An alcoholic drink made from yeast-fermented malt flavored with hops.

-A person that say “I don’t drink beer is saying lies.

Adrink has a premium price because it's made with top shelf liquor.

-In a bar buy drinks of top shelfs very expensive.

A person under the age of full legal responsibility.

-Do you have any imported beers on tap here? I like beer on tap. The canned stuff tastes funny to me.
