BRAIN BREAK MORNING TEA

at KONDININ CRC

On Monday 6th August the children and the parents of

the Early Years program at school were treated to some

terrific Science activities and experiments as part of

National Science Week’s Brain Break Morning Tea.

As the children arrived they could choose playing with

Oobleck, water beads or experimenting with magnets. Some

loved the oozy texture of the oobleck whilst others

preferred to stick to the less messy things.

It was then time to do some experiments. Firstly, we

tried to make sultanas dance. Unfortunately, the soda water

had no fizz as it was a bit old, so we couldn’t get dancing sultanas. Milky fireworks followed. We put

milk in a bowl and added some food colouring. Dish liquid was then added, which made all the colours

mix together, creating lots of different patterns and colours. My favourite, the witches’ cauldron was

next. This involves mixing bicarb and water in a jar and then adding vinegar. The result is the potion

bubbling over the top of the cauldron. We then went outside to try launching a rocket ship. This used

bicarb and vinegar, which was put into a rocket on a stand. The mixture caused the rocket ship to

launch into the sky. We had quite a few tries of this, with the kids all very excited when it did blast

off. The last thing we did was to make popcorn. We watched through the glass top lid of a frying pan

how the kernels popped. The kids enjoyed trying to catch the popcorn when the lid was taken off for

a bit.

The children and their mums enjoyed a lovely morning tea before leaving with a pack of science

activities and some bubbles. The children loved participating in these experiments which were done

using simple ingredients that people have at home. There were lots of squeals of enjoyment and a lot

of mess happening in the Early Years room.

KONDININ NETBALL CLUB—50 YEARS

The Kondinin Netball Club celebrated their 50th Anniversary with lots of fun and fanfare last Saturday. The

day commenced with the juniors taking to the court playing Corrigin and coming away with a 2 goal win

KN 13 to CR 11. This game was followed with the seniors match who also played Corrigin and equally came

away with a 2 goal win KN 35 and CR 33. Both teams played very well together and were spurred along

with the cheering from the sidelines.

The match favourite was the Past and Present Match which was lots of fun and illustrated that many former

players ‘still had the touch’. Well done to Vicki Davidson and Bronwyn Murray who were best on ground.

Even with the fire drums lit, it was still cold down at the courts so the girls headed to the pub for a few

drinks and very tasty nibbles prepared by the Kondinin Hotel. Festivities then continued at the Bill Smoker

Room which was beautifully decorated by Trish Barrett, Nan Meecham and Maria Board - who ever realised

that blowing up helium balloons could be still so much fun!

CC’s Café provided a delicious meal - thank you to Chris Fotheringhame and Mary Browning. Everyone

had a great evening with past and present players from 1968 to today coming together to share stories of

their playing days. The evening kicked on until midnight with best on the dance floor going to Simone and

Hannah. A special shout out to Trish Barrett our amazing treasurer and secretary who was the chief

organiser of the event and keeps us all on the straight and narrow. Thank you also to our life member and

junior and senior coach Rachel Andrews who is the driver behind keeping our fantastic club alive. Thank you

to everyone who helped out to make this event happen and to all the past players that came back for the

weekend.
