MissionEcosno is an environmentally conscious organization, focused on reversing the effects of climate change. We aim to bridge the gap between ski resorts and renewable resources by providing reliable and up to date information. We believe that information is the gateway to change and to keeping winter green.

Why?When researching this project I found that there was a missing connection between information about renewable energy and resources where you can find these sources. Ecosno fills this gap by connecting these two resources I then chose to relate it specifically to the ski resort industry because so much of their business relies on climate and seasonal weather patterns. The ski resort industry will not likely survive the rising temperatures that can be contributed to climate change. In order to help reduce the effects of climate change the ski resort industry has to take the lead and make a change in the way that they consumer energy, setting an a positive example for others. ecosno promotes a cleaner environment for winter sports enthusiast and the surrounding communities alike.

ecosno is an organization that is based in Burlington, Vermont, the largest mountain resort state on the east coast. We aim to help ski resorts make smart decisions when it comes to choosing an energy resource to power their resort. We hope to educate people about climate change and its effects, such as rising temperatures, change in precipitation patters, and change in wind patterns.

ecosno will educate their audience about renewable resources and alternative energies, specifically clean energies such as solar, wind, and geothermal power. These types of renewable resources will help the most when it comes to fighting climate change. ecosno will be a resource for resorts providing them with information about companies that can asses their carbon footprint and choose the right type of renewable resource for them.

We hope to change the view of Americans who think that investing time and money into renewable resources is a waste of time and money by bring to light the effects that nonrenewable resources have on our climate, air, land, water, and lives. We also hope to educate people on how to get involved not only by using renewable energies but also in their everyday lives, such as removing your winter roof rack in the summer, not idling, and so on.

Targeting the college-educated individuals is important, because they’re more likely to invest in renewable resources. I want to attract resorts that want to become environmentally friendly, but I want to draw in the ones that haven’t thought about what their impact is on the environment even more.

The tone of the organization is clean, sophisticated, with a little bit of playfulness. Use of the color green is very important to the way that the organization is presented. I plan on using a lot of white space and black and white photos, so the color green is present to keep my outcomes from coming across as too sterile. Renewable energy will help reverse the affects of climate change that have happened thus far due to use of nonrenewable energy by humans. Nonrenewable energy sources include fossil fuels and nuclear power, these types of energies have adverse effects on our environment, such as creating toxic waste, polluting the air and water, harming animal and plant life and are the main contributor to global warming. Fossil fuel resources, such as coal, oil and natural gas are limited in quantity and will one day be depleted leaving future generations without a viable energy supply.

Renewable energies like solar, wind, and geothermal power are infinite, clean, emission free energies that can provide the earth with power indefinitely. Making the choice to use renewable energy instead of nonrenewable will help reduce pollution and greenhouse gases in the atmosphere that are affecting the earth’s climate. Through out the years the earth’s climate temperatures have been rising; as the climate gets warmer the normal seasonal weather patterns to change creating what is know as climate change. Examples of climate change include changes in precipitation, and wind patterns. First winter snowfalls are happening later and last snowfalls are happening earlier. In order to be able to enjoy the winter season now, and in future years, change has to be made in the way we consume energy. We have to think clean and renewable.

Some people use the terms climate change and global warming interchangeable. Solar power is the suns energy that has been captured and converted into electricity. When the sun beams onto the earth’s surface we can capture its energy with solar panels. Solar panels are made up of many thin layers of silicon that absorb sunlight, the sun is absorbed into the panels causing electrons in the silicon to heat up and bounce rapidly around creating an electrical charge. This electrical charge is harnessed and then converted in to a current that can be used as power.

Solar power can be used to provide heat, light, hot water, and electricity for buildings, from small homes to lager industrial spaces. Solar panels are ideal because they can be placed near or be attached to individual buildings to provide them with power. Solar power can also be harnessed in solar power plants; these plants can provide electricity for large communities across the United States.

Wind energy has been utilized all over the world for centuries. In Holland wind energy was utilized for producing grain with power from windmills. Wind energy has since been used to create electricity by way of the wind turbine. Wind turbines create energy when the as airstream flows across the blades that creates a lift causing them to turn. As they turn, kinetic energy is produced and flows down the shaft of the turbine to a generator that produces energy. Although wind power is best suited for creating energy it can also be used for other applications such as pumping water. Wind power is one of the fastest growing and least expensive forms of renewable energy. It is very cost effective because once a turbine it built the fuel (wind) is free.

Geothermal energy is harnessed from steam or hot water that comes naturally from the Earth. It can be used to heat and cool buildings as well as generate electricity. Natural geothermal reservoirs can be found on the surface in the form of volcanoes, hot water springs and geysers. Most reservoirs are found along major plate boundaries, which in the United States can be found in the western states. The majority of reservoirs are located underground and must be drilled to for use. Ten feet below the earth’s surface temperatures remain consistently between 50 and 60 degrees Fahrenheit. For most places this means that the soil temperature is warmer then the air outside in the winter and cooler then air in the summer. By tapping in to this resource we can heat and cool buildings without the burning of fossil fuels or coal.
