PROCEDURE FOR Ph.D.THESIS SUBMISSION The students who are on verge of completion of Ph.D and needs to submit the thesis are required to follow the below mentioned procedure- Pre-submission Seminar Prior to submission of the thesis, the student shall make a pre-Ph.D presentation in the Department, open to all faculty members and research students, for getting feedback and comments, which may be suitably incorporated in the draft thesis. Student is required to submit the application signed by the supervisor in the office for approval of pre-Ph.D presentation from Head of the Department. Notice of pre-submission is required to be put up on the Department website and notice board atleast 7 days before the pre-submission seminar. There should be at least 20 research scholars, faculty members in total present in pre- submission. Attendance sheet needs to be submitted in the office and student shall keep one copy of attendance with self for record. The pre-submission would have held in the Department under the presence of respective supervisors. Submission of Dissertation After pre-submission student is required to submit the thesis within 120 days of pre- submission held. Student is required to have 7 copies of thesis signed by the Supervisor and Head of the Department. Out of 7 copies, 4 copies shall be submitted at Exam-IV, 2 copies will be submitted at Department where, one will be given to the supervisor(s) and one will be kept in ARC after Viva Voce. Please Note :

a) The Dissertations would be accepted at Exam-IV twice in a month (between 10:00 – 15:00 Hrs): Between 8-14 of every month b. Last 7 days of every month. However, the dissertations would be accepted on the next working day in case the last day of submission happens to be a holiday at University of Delhi.

b) Processing fee of Rs.3000 (for students who have not availed fellowship) or Rs. 5000 (for students who availed fellowship) to be paid at the Finance Branch (Cash Section).

c) The Researcher would be required to adhere to the following standards for submission of PhD Dissertations:

• 4 Copies - 1 Hard Bound and 3 Soft Bound. Spiral Binding not allowed. • The soft copy of the thesis must be submitted in specified media (CD/ DVD) and

in specified formats (open office/ MS office Document format, Tex, LaTex or other standard Format) that are convertible to pdf file.

• 2 Sides printing/photocopying of the Body of the thesis. • Preferred 12 font sized typing • Preferred Printing either in Times New Roman or Arial font • Preferred 1.5 spacing • Margins: Left : 1.5 inches; Right : 1.0 inches; Top : 1.25 inches; Bottom : 1.25

Guidelines for Plagiarism Check The following guidelines must be adhered to for submitting the Plagiarism reports generated by Turnitin or ithenticate softwares at the time of Ph.D. thesis submission:

2. The Ph.D thesis must undergo a Plagiarism Check by either Turnitin or ithenticate software.

3. The exclusion at the time of performing the check should be limited to the following: Quotes Bibliography Phrases Small matches upto 10 words Small similarity less than 1% Mathematical Formula Name of Institutions, Departments etc.

4. Regarding Self Plagiarism or cases where published work of the student is shown as Plagiarism in the check, a certificate (Plagiarism Self Exclusion Certificate, attached) has to be issued by the Supevisor specifying and attaching the articles that have been published by the student from thesis work. Only these articles should be excluded from the check. No other article of the Supervisor or the student should be excluded from the check. This will be for reference of the library which will perform the final check.

5. The final Plagiarism check from the library is essential so that the correct report is submitted at the time of thesis submission.

6. The Central library will issue the final certificate of Plagiarism Check called the Plagiarism Verification Certificate, certifying and authenticating the check performed by the student/Department. This certificate has to be submitted to the Exam Branch at the time of submission of the thesis.
