English

This week is Children’s Mental Health Week and the theme is ‘Express Yourself’. All of our English lessons will

be centred on this theme. Expressing yourself is about finding creative ways to share feelings, thoughts, or

ideas, through things like art, writing, music, dance and doing things that make you feel good.

Just as we look after our physical health (our bodies) by doing things like exercising, eating well and getting

enough sleep, we also need to look after our mental health (our minds). Expressing ourselves, or noticing and

sharing how we are feeling, is one way of keeping our minds healthy.

Record your mood each day this week using the sheet below. Send it to me on Dojo on Friday!

Learning Objective:  write a recount

I can: Me Miss K

Use my imagination.

Use expanded noun phrases to add detail.

Use a variety of conjunctions.

Write in the past tense.

Use punctuation correctly.

Your Task: Write an imaginative weekend recount, writing what you wish you could

have done on the weekend. It can be as creative and imaginative as you like! Or if you

did, in fact, have the best weekend and would not change a thing, write exactly what

you did! Remember to follow the success criteria. Afterwards, edit your work with a

different coloured pen or pencil and check off the success criteria that you

included.

The Best Day

It all started like a regular Saturday morning as I stretched my arms and let out a big yawn.

I tugged the bedcovers closer to my chin and rolled over to look outside the window to check

the weather. My eyes bulged out of their sockets as I realised I wasn’t in my bedroom. When

I looked out the window, I saw what appeared to be a savannah and clear, blue skies. I

wondered where on Earth I could be!

First, I got myself dressed and, luckily, I had a packed suitcase in the corner of the room

filled with clothes suitable for the hot, dry weather. Suddenly, I heard a loud, cheerful voice

call out my name followed by the words, “breakfast is ready”. This was going to be a good

day!

Next, I met the tall, dark man who was named Musa, and he showed me to a table filled with

a delicious and delectable selection of food. My tummy grumbled as I sat down but then I

noticed the most amazing view down below. My eyes lit up as I looked towards the watering

hole. Surrounding it were animals that I had only ever seen in the zoo or while watching David

Attenborough shows on the television. Giraffes, zebras, buffaloes, elephants, a lone cheetah

and even a pride of lions. I was in the captivating, exciting land of Africa!

After I finished eating a big, healthy breakfast, Musa asked me if I would like to get closer

to the vibrant, buzzing waterhole. I raced as fast as I could to the big, green safari car. We

drove cautiously towards the pride of lions and saw cute, adventurous cubs running around.

Then we drove further through the Serengeti and watched as a family of giraffes ate leaves

from the tallest treetops.

Later, we travelled back to our campsite and enjoyed a tasty dinner as we sat by the warm,

roaring fire. Musa and his friends sang and danced to traditional African songs as I sat,

smiling in amazement. It wasn’t a good day. It was the best day ever!

Dear Year 2,

I hope you are all doing well and enjoying your week so far. I am writing to you

because I would really appreciate your help to express my feelings. I would also like

to know about your inside weather today.

I woke up today and my inside weather is a bit drizzly. When I say drizzly, I mean

that I feel a bit sad. Do you ever feel this way? Nothing has happened to make me

feel sad, so I am feeling a bit strange about it.

I already feel a lot better writing this letter to you, but I wondered if you could

give me some more ideas to make me feel better. What do you do when you are

feeling drizzly or a bit sad?

How are you feeling today? Is your inside weather sunny or is it similar to mine?

Please let me know your inside weather and tell me what you are doing to express it.

Thank you for your help. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Love,

Miss Kelly

Please upload a video or photo of you doing your chosen task then write at least three
