PRISCILLA ADEI ASHIE NIKOI10417531REPORT ON KWEIMAN ENTRYINTRODUCTIONWe got to Kweiman on the 23rd of September 2015 at 3:00 pm. We were welcomed by the linguist, Mr. Daniel Tetteh and some elders with the exception of the Chief, Nii Laryea Amartey who was not around. We introduced ourselves that is, the students and the lecturers. We told them the reason behind our visit and asked them if they could give us the permission to do our work. We asked them questions about their history, staple foods, main occupation, taboos, population, schools, main water source and others. They also asked us questions concerning our field work. They asked us what our main target population was. And one of my colleagues; Joshua told them that we will be assessing everybody but our main focus is the children and one of our lecturers added that our main focus will also be on children under 5. They also asked about the benefit they will gain from this assessment and Dr. Owusu said that Danfa health post is known for its good health so this community will also benefit from it and also kweiman will be known wherever we will go. The linguist asked about whether we will be giving food and other stuffs to the children to entice the parent to bring their children and Dr. Vuvor answered that we will be doing something about it but we cant promise. They also asked about our groupings and T.A Richard told them we will be in groups of 3 and 4. They also asked the reason for asking them about their history. One of the masters student answered that because we are going to work with them so is necessary for us to know their history.A gift was presented to the elders and the linguist and we were shown around the community.

HistoryThe history of Kweiman or the history behind Kweiman started when a man named Kwei from Teshie first settled in 1829. Kwei is their forefather and the people Kweiman as at now are fifth generation. Their family name Kweitia was derived from the fact that Kwei was a short man in which the Akuapems used to call him.Facts about KweimanKweimans main occupation is farming. Their staple foods are tomatoes, garden eggs, onions e.t.c. One peculiar thing about Kweiman is their taboos. They dont allow or rear dogs in the community. This is because they presume they have bad spirits. They also do not farm on Fridays. This is because it is the resting day for their forefather. Their main language is Ga and their dominant religion is Christianity. Their main water source is borehole which is obtained from Ayi Mensah and transported through pipes to the Community. Their population four years ago was 600 but have no idea about their present population. They are surrounded by 5 communities: Ayi Mensah, danfa, oyarifa, Manhia and Adoteiman. They buy their foodstuff from Madina. They also celebrate Homowo.
