Step 1: Start the computer in safe mode

Start the computer in safe mode in order to remove spool files. To do this, follow thesesteps:

1. Restart your computer and press the F8 key repeatedly while the computer is

starting. n a computer that is configured to run multiple operating systems, pressthe F8 key when the Bootmenu appears.

!. Select Safe Modewhen the Windows Advanced Optionsmenu appears, and

then press "#T"R.$. %f the Bootmenu appears again and you are prompted to select an operating

system, use the arrow keys to select the operating system, and then press "#T"R.

NoteFor more information a&out how to start your computer in safe mode, click

Start, click Help and Support, type safe mode in the Search&o', press "#T"R,

and then click the Start Windows in safe modetopic.

Step 2: Delete the spool printer and driver files

%n safe mode, delete the spool printer and driver files. To do this, start (icrosoft

)indows "'plorer, and then delete all the files and the folders in the following twofolders *where +: is the drive where )indows - is installed:

+:/)indows/System$!/Spool/-rinters

+:/)indows/System$!/Spool/0rivers/w$!'8

Remove the potentially pro&lematic registry entries for )indows #T '8 service

su&keys. These may have &een installed &y third3party printer setup programs and may &einterfering with the print spool service. Follow these steps to keep the drivers, print

spools, and registry entries that were included with )indows and to remove all other

drivers, print spools, and registry entries that may &e causing issues.1. Start Registry "ditor. To do this, click Start, click )un, type regedit in the Open

&o', and then click O*.

!. 4ocate and e'pand the following registry key to view the list of su&keys

*su&folders:

%n the su&key list, there should only &e the following su&keys:

$. %f there are any su&keys other than the su&keys that are listed in step !, follow

these steps:

a. n the $ilemenu, click !+port.

b. %n the $ile Name&o', type the name that you want to use for this key,

such as )indows#T'8regkey, and then click Save.

Remove the potentially pro&lematic print monitor su&keys that may &e interfering with

the printer that you want to use. These may have &een installed &y third3party printersetup programs. Follow these steps to keep the print monitors and registry entries thatwere included with )indows and to remove all other print monitors and registry entries

that may &e causing issues.
