CLAIR WALLEYE ASSOCIATION WALLEYE WORLD NOVEMBER IS NOT JUST FOR HUNTING! by Tim Muir Typically once the calendar hits November most outdoorsman’s thoughts turn to the woods. as I found out, this is a missed opportunity to put some more walleye in the freezer for the winter ahead. On this warm and windy night a week prior to firearm deer season found me on the St. Clair river doing some late season whipping with fellow club member Ed K. The evening started out about 5:45 as we set anchor and started setting our lines. The action started hot and heavy as we got 5 in the first hour and 15 minutes including a beautiful 7.5lb’er. after that the action slowed to about 1 fish every half hour or so. we finished the night with 11 fish in the box. we should of had our limit except 1 came off at the boat and the weather kicked up around 11 and we made our way in. Every fish that night came on an orange colored pencil plug or rapala. In the days since we went out. I have read many good reports of limit catches whipping up in the river. I myself as I ready for deer camp am hoping to maybe try and get out once I return. The fish we caught were very hungry and hit our baits hard. there was no mistaking it. Check out our YouTube channel there is an informative video on the basics of whipping. Once out there you will see all the boats lined up, just get in line with the rest of them if you don’t have your own little “honey hole”. If you get a chance before ice up I recommend getting one last trip in before you put your boat to bed for the winter. I know I will be. Go on our message board and offer a seat to those that have already put the boat away. A good way to make a new friend and show what this club is all about. Lake Erie Walleye Fishingby Richard Benson

What a better way to spend the day before Thanksgiving than fishing with your friends on Lake Erie? Keith Krych, Tim Muir and myself headed over to Huron, Ohio for a great day of walleye fishing. We launched at the Huron River access site which is very nice launch, and free, right into the bay between Huron and Sandusky. Fishing over depths from 35-42 feet deep, we pulled deep diving body baits and after covering a bit of water we found out the walleye wanted deep diving husky jerks in blue/silver/orange and glass perch with an orange belly. Trolling along at 1.5 mph with a setback of 70-90 feet was the most productive for us. We ended the day with 11 walleye in size from 3lbs to 9.5 lbs. If you have never experienced Huron, Ohio walleye fishing in the fall you certainly are missing out!

President’s Cornerby Richard Benson

Merry Christmas! Yes, it’s here already! That means Santa will be on his way to the LSCWA Kids Christmas Party on Dec 12th at the RoseClaire Eagles clubhouse which is located at 29500 Little Mack Ave. The party will start at 11am and finish up at 2pm. This party is open to all who wish to attend, small gifts will be handed out for children 12 and under. Immediately following will be a fish fry that we will be treating the members of the RoseClaire Eagles and the LSCWA to. Both events are free!...just another perk of being a member. Bob Barnes is the chairman for both of these events, to volunteer or donate please contact him.

Continuing with the holiday festivities, our annual general membership Christmas party will be Dec 16th. As always, this is a pot luck dinner, bring your favorite dish to pass or even an appetizer. The meeting starts at 7:30 but you are encouraged to come early.

I would now like to talk a bit about membership and trying to attract new members. The LSCWA is starting a new college scholarship fund, membership in the club is required to apply. We are also looking a maybe a youth tournament and possibly increasing the number of kids we send to summer camp, again, for members and their families. We would like to get the word out about all the benefits becoming offers potential members. Free fishing derbies, free seminars, children’s events, camp, scholarships and more.

Well, that’s enough for now, I wish you all a safe and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

A fool and his money can throw one heck

of a party.

Membership ltrby Don Murray

Let me explain the expiration arrow at the top of the club’s newsletter. The arrow is a friendly reminder of when your dues will expire. When you see your membership nearing expiration date, you can plan to renew. You can renew in a couple of ways, hopefully I will see you at a meeting, or send a application to the club’s PO BOX and I will take care of your renewal.

BINGO and Cupcakesby Rich Benson

On Sunday October 25th, the LSCWA Bingo night was a night for a good cause. My wife, Maria, and I baked cupcakes and sold them for donations. The LSCWA matched the funds we raised and together we made a donation of $300 to the American Breast Cancer Foundation.

Lure Christmas treeby Rich Benson

Don’t forget the Christmas Lure Tree!... Every year at the Christmas party we have our lure tree, members are asked to bring a new or

gently used lure or fishing item to donate to the tree, then one of Santa’s Elves (looking at you Ted) sells tickets and one lucky winner will get

one heck of a stocking stuffer!

Cold as Ice IIby Rich Benson

The WCSX ice fishing tournament is scheduled for January 30, 2016. The LSCWA has again been asked to assist them and be the official weigh-in crew. This year, cash prizes have been added to the mix as well as changing the format to separate divisions for perch, pike and panfish(bluegill/sunfish-no bass or crappie). Entry fee required.

The next day is our annual kids ice fishing event, open and free to all, from 9am to 2pm we will be serving food and refreshments in the heated tent provided by WCSX.

Both events will take place at Lake St. Clair Metropark at the day sail picnic area.

To volunteer or donate see Bob Barnes, myself or any board member.
