Our Mission

DEAR FRIENDS OF

SACRED HEART:

F iscal Year 2007-08 proved to be an event-packed, exciting year for all of us at Sacred Heart.

With the completion of the major renovation of our Memphis facility we have dramatically improved the physi-cal environment in which we provide our services. Not only are the build-ing and furnishings brighter and more attractive, the physical plant is much more efficient to operate. But that is only phase one of our Facility Renovation Project. We are working with the Township to resolve the differences which are holding up phases two (the re-configuration of the main building to create a new admission wing) and phase three (the construc-tion of a new home for the women and children in our Clearview Program on our Memphis campus. We are optimis-tic we will eventually gain the approval to complete the remaining projects but continue to pursue resolution through the courts in the event we cannot come to agreement with the Township. We also look forward to further im-provements in our continuum of ser-vices. We expect to integrate the ser-

vices of our newly acquired Detroit women’s residential service, New Life Home, with our other specialized women’s services. We also expect to expand our commit-ment to outpatient opiate replacement

therapy and to our services for individ-uals with co-occurring mental illnesses and substance use disorders. As the state moves to transform the substance use disorder prevention and treatment system to one founded on the prin-ciples of disease management, we will adapt all of our services to be part of that transformation. Our expansion of our AIDS Care Program will also continue and we are looking at ways to better integrate those services with our outpatient programs throughout southeastern Michigan. The 2007-08 fiscal year had many challenges and so will the 2008-09 year. All of the above activity will take place in an economic environment that is the worst we have seen in decades. As our growth and development as a

corporate of service has quickened, we are better prepared to meet the new challenges, just as we successfully met those of the past year. We are committed as an organiza-tion to continue providing outstanding service to those in need. Many of you have contributed in some way to help-ing us sustain and expand our mission of assuring that all of us have a chance to live healthy and productive lives. With your continued help, we will con-tinue to grow in service to others.

Sincerely,

Grady L. Wilkinson, MSWPresident, CEO

Submission from the heart

To all of the staff at Sacred Heart,You will always be special people in my heart. Without all of you, this place would not be. Thank you for all of your support and giving me the confidence I needed for recovery. For that I am clean and sober today. I really learned a great deal here. I had my doubts at first, but overcame that quickly. This program works and will continue to work. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Stay safe and sober.

Love, Patty D.

We are rooted in a far reaching vision that calls upon the organization to reach for a higher standard of service excellence in pursuit of that mission:

Sacred Heart Rehabilitation Center will provide the best outcome driven, evidence based, cost effective behavioral health care in North America.

As we pursue that vision, we remain committed to the following core values:

Integrity: We adhere to the highest standards of ethical and professional conduct.

Accountability: We accept and uphold our full responsibility to our clients, community, staff and organization.

Customer Service: We will relentlessly focus on identifying and serving the needs of our customers.

Diversity: We will honor, nurture and respond to the differences inherent in a multicultural society.

DEAR FRIENDS OF

SACRED HEART:

On behalf of the Board of Directors of Sacred Heart Rehabilitation Cen-ter, I am pleased to forward to you

our Annual Report for Fiscal Year 2007-08. The Fiscal Year although difficult, saw continued growth and progress for the Center. Our operating results were strong and our financial position remains sound. We are proud of the continued de-velopment of Sacred Heart as a corpora-tion of service to those in need. Fiscal Year 2007-08 saw the contin-ued growth of Sacred Heart’s package of behavioral healthcare services. We expanded our specialized services for women through the acquisition of New Life Home, a residential program based in Detroit. We also opened a new office in Saginaw for our AIDS Care Program; we intend to integrate outpatient addic-tions treatment with the AIDS service provided at that site. In spite of the difficult financial en-

vironment, we were able to finish the

renovation of our main campus in Memphis. The updating of the Memphis build-ing improves our operating effi-ciency, assuring that we maxi-mize the service we provide with the funding we get. We are op-timistic we will soon be able to proceed with the construction of the new admis-sion wing for the Memphis building and the new home for the Clearview program, completing the Facility Renovation Plan. Finishing these projects will not only further add to operating efficiency but improve service quality, as well. Foremost for Sacred Heart is our mis-sion of charitable care treatment scholar-ships. Thanks to all of those who have donated to Sacred Heart, we have award-ed over a quarter of a million dollars

in treatment scholarships for individuals who would not other-wise have been able to afford the care they needed at the time they were ready to seek it. While the coming year will likely be even more challeng-ing, challenges will bring new o p p o r t u n i t i e s . Through the ef-

forts of our dedicated Management and Staff, and with the help of people like you, we will continue to grow in service to those in need.

Sincerely,

Dear Staff at Sacred Heart,When I came in the doors at Sacred Heart I was very desperate and emotionally, physically and spiritually bankrupt. The staff here kept me here. I wanted to leave. I am so grateful for Sacred Heart. You guys saved my life. I would not be alive if I didn’t come to this amazing place. A month later I am getting ready to walk out these doors and you all have taught me so much to take with me. More than I have learned in 6 years of college and that is the honest truth. You have touched my soul and helped me to overcome my fears and also helped me find a higher power. I never believed in anything and thank you now I do. I will never forget any of the great learning experiences I have had in the past month. I hope you all know how much of an inspiration you truly are. I am actually sad to leave but will be back for recharge and meetings. How could I not return to the place that saved my life. Please keep doing what you all do. I can’t say it enough I love you all. I got the tools now to walk one foot in front of the other. In a year I hope I can be a colleague. Pray for me as I will pray for all of you. It has been a blessing to meet everyone of you.

Sincerely, Anne M.

2008 AIDS WALKSince its first year in 2005, AIDS Walk BAY CITY MIDLAND SAGINAW has raised almost $150,000 which benefits the clients of the HIV/AIDS Care Program at Sacred Heart BASIS. This year, 364 people attended the event including Jeanne White-Ginder, the mother of Ryan White and both mayors from Bay City and Saginaw and raised $46,000. This year’s AIDS Walk was the most successful one in Michigan. The dollars raised support the care program which provides case management, prescription and dental assistance, housing assistance, food pantry, monthly client education workshops, client emergency fund, community HIV prevention education and testing, and care outreach. All of these services are free and confidential.

CHARITABLE CARE TREATMENT FUNDSacred Heart Charitable Care Treatment Fund, provides individuals with the means to seek treatment regardless if they unable to qualify for county funding, are uninsured or are unable to pay themselves. Sacred Heart provided over 60 Charitable Care Treatment Scholarships in FY 2007-2008. We were able to award 33.5% more than previous fiscal year. Since fiscal year 2005-2006 Sacred Heart has allocated a quarter of a million dollars towards these scholarships. Thank you Friends of Sacred Heart, without you we would not be able to impact these individuals at this level.

EXPANDING SERVICES Sacred Heart expanded the HIV/AIDS Care services by opening a new satellite office located in Saginaw, Michigan. The new satellite office will make it easier for our HIV/AIDS care clients in Saginaw County to access services. In addition, free, confidential and anonymous HIV testing will be offered at our new Saginaw location.

WEBSITE LAUNCH Sacred Heart launched the organization’s new website. It is innovative and a great recovery resource. You can access our print publications, such as this Annual Report, Information for Friends and Family booklet, Heart Beat quarterly newsletter, drug use disorder FAQ’S, links to other substance abuse and mental health supportive services agencies, Sacred Heart community events and information on our other Continuum of Care services. Within moments of viewing this website it is should be clear that our dedication to provide you information mirrors our commitment to care. Visit www.sacredheartcenter.com.

NEW LIFE HOME FOR RECOVERING WOMEN ANNUAL SPIRIT OF COMPASSION AWARDSThe event was held on May 2nd at the Renaissance Unity Church. The event featured a comedian, dinner, New Life Women’s Choir, other musical guest and an awards ceremony. Over $10,000 dollars was raised. In light of the events success a newly formed fund development committee has already began planning next years event. So far it has been agreed upon that we include both of our women’s specialty programs. We can hardly wait to see the charisma and energy the two programs will bring to this event. Thank you all who attended and see you next year.
