a. Different individuals have defined ‘Engineering Design’ in different manner. Clearly defined ‘Engineering Design’ from your point of view, with a brief

explanation to support your definition.

b. Clarifying objectives of a design activity is very important for a designer. Why is it so?

c. State clearly, why economic considerations are important in an engineering design. Explain your answer with an example. Briefly discuss the impact of economic

considerations on the design process and final product.

Question 04

Answer the following.

i. Explain the term Design for sustainability.

ii. ‘Whole building’ design not only looks at how materials, systems and products of a building connect and overlap, but also looks at how the building and its systems can be integrated with supporting systems on its site and its community.

List five such supporting systems which should be considered related to the site and to the local community.

iii. Importance of Ergonomic consideration in modern engineering designs.

iv. People have always designed things and even animals make things to fulfill basic

needs.

Distinguish design by humans and design by other animal in the context of evolution and development of the design process.

Question 05

Explain the holistic design approach. Also explain briefly the factors to be considered in holistic design.
