Dear All, What a sizzler it has been. It has certainly kept our air-conditioning people in business. I think almost all of our air-conditioners have broken down this week which is pretty disappointing. Anyway you all know my favourite job is building and facilities!! Good News Firstly I would like to welcome Robert Rush (Roly) to our school. Robert will be our new Aquaculture Manager as Mark Churchett transitions into the world of farming. Mark has been an amazing asset to our school and especially to the Aquaculture area. We wish him every success in his new ventures. Pre-service teachers We welcome Carly, Brooke and Hanna to our school for the next three weeks to begin their classroom experiences in teaching. They have settled wonderfully and dived in to the wild world of education. Congratulations To Vicki Bourlioufas who will be our new R-9 Coordinator for 2014. Not so good news We were very sad to hear of the passing of Mrs Peter’s father last week. Our thoughts are with her and her family at this hard time.
Jodie Hannemann has let me know that she will be resigning from her CPSW position in the school for family reasons. I know that the staff and students will miss her presence in the school. Jodie has made a huge effort to be in Cowell and we thank her for that commitment. I will meet with the Schools Ministry Group representative next week to discuss what our further options might be. Up and Coming Events Swimming Carnival is next Friday 21st of February, more news in next weeks newsletter. Please come along for all or part of the day, it is always fun.
Immunisations for Year 8 and 9 students will begin on the 25th of February followed by Tuesday 29th of April and Tuesday 23rd of September.
Port Power players will be visiting on the 18th February at about 11:30am to have a chat with students in Years 3 to 10. Governing Council The next meeting will be on the 25th of February at 7:30pm in the Library. We have a number of agenda items including a proposal for an auction, a couple of working bees and the dates for Students Free Days which allow the staff to meet with the new partnership formed across Central Eyre to have training and development.
PRINCIPAL’S NEWS Budget With staffing almost finalised Jacqui Lewis and I are completing the budget in time for the AGM of Governing Council which will be held in March. Have a great week, and enjoy the rain when it comes!! Kind regards, Jan Potter Thought for the week “Life has two rules: #1 Never quit #2 Always remember rule # 1.” - Unknown

Welcome back for another school year. It has been great catching up with students and hearing about their Christmas and Summer Break.
SACRED STONE VISIT We have the band Sacred Stone visiting the school on Wednesday 19th February. They will be presenting an RE session to students from years 6-12 called “Friend Request”.
From their website: “In this presentation Sacred Stone explore a number of values which are important for authentic relationships such as empathy, sacrifice, selflessness and love. Through the use of live music, “street talk” style video clips and personal stories Sacred Stone take young people on a journey through key scenarios that they are confronted with every day on Facebook…Some of the issues addressed include being un-friended, tagged in a picture, and being the subject of an untrue and hurtful post.”
You can learn more about Sacred Stone by going to their website www.sacredstone.com Please let me know if you have any other questions about this visit. NEIGHBOUR DAY – SUNDAY 30TH MARCH 2014 I came across this initiative recently. Started by Andrew Heslop in 2003, Neighbour Day is a day to celebrate community and reach out to those around us. Whether it be a simple cup of coffee together or a larger gathering, the idea is to do something on Sunday March 30th that connects you with those who live nearby. Country communities are generally well-known for their sense of community and looking out for one another. But with our lifestyles getting busier, it can be easy to let the simple connections to those around us lapse. Is there someone you’ve been meaning to catch up with or get to know better? Neighbour Day could be just the excuse you need to make it happen. For more information and to register your event go to www.neighbourday.org

WHAT IS A THEATRE RESTAURANT SHOW ?
Theatre Restaurant is an entertainment package of ‘Live on Stage’ performance of music, comedy, audience participation and fun, coupled with BYO Drinks, drinking Glass, & Supper to share at your table.
SYNOPSIS Oyez,Oyez,Oyez ! Welcome back to the middle ages ! A romantic time of fair maidens and knights in shining armour ! Well, that’s how history wants us to remember it ! BUT what really happened back then ? Come with us on an action packed romp through the unknown pages of England ! Our hero is ROBIN THE HOOD ! OUR BADDIE IS THE EVIL king john! So far seems pretty normal, But what a tangled web is weaved when the other characters enter the story ! First there’s the strange Sheriff of Snottingham, who would be more at home in a spaghetti Western, then there’s the beautiful, if somewhat silly Maid Marian. As for the Merry Men, well they belong in an asylum rather than a Forest !! So, mix all these characters in with a large dollop of comedy, blend in music and song, add just a pinch of audience participation and Voila! You have “ROBIN THE HOOD “ The music is lively, including some old and some new songs to cater for most tastes. It is recommended for an adult audience, however it does not carry an “Adults Only” warning. This is an excellent evening’s entertainment – come along and enjoy , various raffles are offered, support the Skate park Fundraising Group achieve their goal .
