Principal’s Newsletter 21st December 2018 Dear Parents and Carers, The celebrations in the Later Years have been fabulous and it’s been wonderful to share them with large crowds of staff, parents and friends who came along to congratulate our students on their achievements. The year 12 Graduation was a spectacular event and a great celebration for students and staff. The end of year Assemblies today at the Warringa Park campus were filled with excitement and good cheer. The end of year Arts Festival on Wednesday was certainly a day of fun and celebration. Thank you to Andrew Knox and the Specialist Team for the organisation of this spectacular event. ‘All about Us’ was an exhibition of art work made worn and performed by the students following their work with the Polyglot Theatre group. And then there was the family celebration in the evening and the incredible visual arts exhibition. Thanks Andrew, Ruth, Melody and Catherine for giving our young artists the opportunity to exhibit their work. The Reliance Foundation assisted with some funding so we thank them as well. To all the students who are exiting the school we wish them well in their lives post Warringa Park School. We are very proud of these young people. I would also like to thank the parents and carers of these students for the support that you have given the school over the time your child has attended Warringa Park School. You will have received the school’s Year Book which is a pictorial celebration of the learning that has occurred in so many areas over this year. This is an amazing publication that has been coordinated by Rachael Telford who has done an excellent job. I’m sure students will be delighted to flip through this publication many times over the holiday period. I’ve certainly enjoyed reading it. To the staff members that are leaving Warringa Park School we thank you for work and contribution to the school. You have made a difference to the lives of our students through your dedicated and highly valued work during 2018. As you are aware, we have been working with the Department of Education and Training to roll out direct campus transport for our students in 2019. A large transport network review was undertaken and the key recommendations identified were: That students should be transported directly to their campus (not via main campus) The number of home pickups should be decreased and that we should use more centrally located pick up –points (in line with policy of the Department of Education and Training) and There should be a reduction in the overlap in services. As per the school’s transport policy and where appropriate, students are expected to meet the bus service at a designated pick-up point. This ensures time spent on the bus is kept to a minimum for all students and enables bus services to run as efficiently as possible. I have had the policy placed on the school website and on Compass. If a family requires access to a closer to home pick up, a case can be submitted to the principal who will liaise with the Student Transport Unit. The new runs for 2019 for CRC, BRC and main campus have just been given to the school by the Transport Unit and the bus companies are working out the pick- up and drop off times. We are endeavouring to have all of this information out to parents as soon as possible. We will be sending out pickup and drop off times in the week commencing 21st January 2019. I appreciate that this is a big change and there will be some initial sorting out to do but direct transport to the campuses will be highly beneficial in the longer term for our students. I would like to especially thank the bus drivers and chaperones for their work in supporting students to make the transition from home to school. For some students this is not easy but the bus staff work with parents and the staff to make it as harmonious as possible. Thank you to the wonderful staff here at Warringa Park School for the dedicated work they do and to our School Council and Fundraising Committee who are so supportive of the school. The Christmas Raffle had 19 prizes. It has been a great year with the students, staff, parents and the school community working so well together and achieving great things. A special thank you to the administration staff who do an excellent job of supporting the staff and the school community. The first day of school is Wednesday January 30th 2019. We look forward to seeing all our students back refreshed after the summer holidays and importantly look forward to welcoming the new students to the school and the many preps who are starting school. I wish you all the very best during this festive period and I hope the holidays are relaxing and happy times. Marie Hayes, Principal First day of Term 1 30th January 2019

Specialist News....On Wednesday our school celebrated the end of the year with our annual Arts Festival and Family celebrations across the day and evening. The amazing Art work produced by our students throughout the year was showcased in an exhibition in the Hall, as well as the work done by classes working with Polyglot Theatre during Term 4.

A big thank you to everyone from Warringa Park - volunteers, BRC students and staff who supported us on a very busy and successful day and evening. A big thanks to all the Specialist Teachers who pulled it all together, and to all of our wonderful students who made it come alive with their creativity and energy. I hope everyone has a fantastic summer break, see you all in 2019.

Happy holidays from Andrew and the Specialist Team - Ruth, Heather, Brian, Gavin, Kacey, Emilia, Athena, P.K., Michelle, Paul, Melody, Rachael and Catherine

Thank you for the Music!

The Specialist Team would like to extend a huge thank you to Suzanne Cory High School for their generous donation of 15 Djembe drums. We appreciate Jasmine Byrne and Antony Payne for organising the donation and as you can see in the photos, the drums are already being put to good use as we rehearse for the end of year assembly.

Here are some photos off the drums being played by Group 34 in rehearsals for assembly. Brian and Heather
