www.gibbonsschool.ca Principal’s Message: The holidays seemed to approach so quickly this year. We have just a few weeks before celebration time is here. Your children have been working hard and it is nice to see this hard work reflected in the success of students here at Gibbons School. Our school has been busy with activities from DARE programming in Elementary to PARTY program in Junior high. Our Leadership students had organized a Junior High dance where students from Redwater School joined us. Lillian Schick also joined us for a joint Hockey Game this month as well. To have our communities join in activities together helps us to get to know our neighbors and enhance community relationships. We have a busy December planned with our guest speaker, Danielle Reed, who is speaking to our students about ‘Values’ and how they guide the choices we make in life. We will also celebrate this month with our Academic Awards. It is wonderful to see how well our students are doing in class this year and I hope this academic focus continues into the New Year. Our Christmas concert is schedules for December 8 th in both the afternoon and evening. We hope to have a large contribution to our Local food bank from donations at the Christmas Concert. Finally, our parent Council is hosting a Pancake Breakfast for all of our students on December 17 th . Over the holiday season, we hope you all are able to stay safe and spend much time with family, friends and loved ones. Lunch Time

A closed campus exists to assist the school in ensuring a safe and caring environment.

Students are not allowed off school premises unless a parent contacts the school via

phone/note to have the student attend an appointment or be involved in a specific activity.

Should you have any questions or concerns regarding this policy, please contact Mrs.

Kristine Wilkinson, Principal, or Mr. Iain Jamieson, Vice Principal.

Severe Nut Allergies

We have students who have severe allergic reactions to nuts. If exposed to nuts, their

reaction may place them in a life-threatening situation. In providing as safe an environ-

ment as possible, we encourage our students to not share their food with others. If stu-

dents are bringing treats for others, we ask that they be free of nut products. Your assis-

tance in

limiting these products being brought into the school is appreciated. We would also ask

parents/guardians to inform the school if their child(ren) have any life threatening allergies

so that we may better protect your children’s health. Please contact the school office at

(780) 923-2240.

Absentee Check

If your child will be absent for the day please contact the school as soon as possible at

780-923-2240. Absentee checks will be done each morning, and automated calls will be

made to verify attendance for those students marked absent.

GIBBONS VOLLEYBALL

This year both the Girls Senior / Junior, and the Boys Senior / Junior volleyball teams have

been enjoying competitive games throughout the division. The Girls senior team has had both

wins and losses however all games have been close and extremely competitive. The Boys

senior team has met some extremely competitive volleyball teams this year winning all their

division games. Junior teams are understanding the fundamentals of volleyball and are enjoy-

ing cross-division competition. All teams have been involved in tournaments this year and

Sturgeon division finals are being held in two different schools due to renovations at Sturgeon

Composite High School. Senior girls were at Camilla School where they finished the year in

fourth place and the boys were at Gibbons and finished overall in second place. A big congrat-

ulations to all four teams for such a wonderful and action packed season, and a big thank you

to all those coaches, parents and referees that made it such a smooth and organized season!
