Transcript of Principal’s Messag Issue 3 - Scottville State School...Issue 3 -T3 – 23rd August 2018 ......
Principal’s Messages
Last week saw us learning about snakes, spiders, and all
things deadly with Mark from Deadly Australians and we
had a great time. Not only did we all get to take a Deadly
Australian poster home, Mark also kindly donated a
fabulous book to our library “Wildlife of North
Queensland” where the Yellow Faced Snapping Turtle,
only found in the Bowen River and Burdekin Dam, is
listed as endangered. Students also completed a hectic
round of sports offerings on our Cluster Carnival Day on
Friday with students accessing the Lawn Bowls Club,
Soccer, Touch and Frisbee Golf and as always Scottville
students had fun and conducted themselves in an
exemplary manner. We’re proud to be seen and green!
It’s BOOK WEEK and Scottville State School has
embraced all things Pirate and Treasure orientated, as
this is the theme for the 2018 celebration of reading and
literacy. Come along on Thursday to see our parade on
Thursday morning, 23rd August, when Kindy children
will join us for fabulous stories and activities. Book Fair
is on in our “shipshape” library from this Thursday until
next week Wednesday, before and after school and at
lunch breaks. It’s great for our growing readers and has
lots of gift ideas to share the love of a good book or find
out fantastic facts in the non-fiction offerings, along with
activity sets and novelty items. Stories will be told in our
magical story tent!
Our Family and Community School Celebration BBQ is
on again next week, August 30th Thursday evening, we
look forward to sharing all of our student efforts with
everyone as we relax at the Collinsville Bowls Club from
5:00 p.m. Please let the school know numbers of
attending family members so the Club can cater
appropriately. We would love to share the great successes
our students and teachers. It’s the teamwork that makes
things happen.
Science Week saw our senior class attend Collinsville
State High School to participate in a range of
experiments and this week Anna Reeves conducted
experiments with our P-2 and 3-4 classes making sherbet
and kinetic sand.
THE SCHOOL OPINION SURVEY began on 27th of
July and close on the 24th of August. Parent letters have been sent home and you can access the website on any
smartphone, computer or iPad etc. Please feel free to ask
for assistance if required. If you have not received a letter contact the school and another can be provided.

Education Queensland Updates:
A MUST READ FOR ALL PARENTS
Policy and Procedures
All state schools must follow the procedures and policies
set out by the Department of Education and the
Queensland Government. It is therefore important for
parents and carers to understand that schools have
limitations to what services it can provide and the
responsibilities that are the parents are different to those
that are the schools. While departmental information is
shared on enrolment that information may no longer be
current as legislation and policies are updated over time.
Here are a few of the key policies that affect daily school
life.
School Attendance
It is a parent's responsibility to ensure that their child attends school on time, every school day for the educational program in which he/she is enrolled. Attendance includes all times from commencement of class until the end of the school day. At Scottville State School class commences at 8:30 a.m. and finishes at 2:30 p.m. More information: http://education.qld.gov.au/everydaycounts/
Schools are obliged to address unexplained or unsatisfactory absences or patterns of absences for example; when a student is absent for three or more consecutive school days, where there is a persistent pattern of unexplained absences or absences without reasonable excuses or where a student’s attendance is reasonably considered unsatisfactory. IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Parents may be prosecuted if they do not fulfil their legal
obligations concerning enrolment and attendance of
their child at school.
Absences
Absence notification process
Please remember to call the school on 07-47855288 or email at [email protected] early in the morning if your child is going to be away or late for school so your child’s absence can be recorded correctly.
The safety and wellbeing of students are the highest priorities for the department. Parents need to know if their child hasn't turned up for school, and schools need to know when and why a child is absent. A parent should contact the school to notify if a child is not attending school because of a valid reason. State schools are required to notify parents on the same day that any student is absent from school without explanation.
Each parent has the legal obligation to ensure that the
young person is participating full-time education,
unless the parent has a reasonable excuse. Students
who are or will be absent from school for more than 10
days (e.g because of illness or family holidays) must
request or apply for an exemption. Principals may
approve exemptions only where there is a valid reason.
Before School
Scottville State School hours for student supervision are only during these times by staff; 8:00 a.m. until at 2:45 p.m. For child safety and well-being students, on arrival at or after 8:00 a.m. students are situated under A and B Block and may participate in handball, reading or complete homework. As staff are limited and busy with school tasks at this time, children will be restricted to this area until the class bell rings at 8:25 a.m. Leaving school / after school
If people other than those listed on your child’s
enrolment are to collect children from school, the
parents or legal guardian must contact the school prior
to the child being collected to make arrangements and
proof of identification may be requested if the newly
designated carer or responsible person are people
unknown to the school. This is a matter of child safety
and well-being that parent who are late or unable to
collect their own children contact the school urgently to
make other arrangements before staff leave the office at
2:30 p.m.

Congratulations to Claudia who
won the science prize of a Glow in
the Dark Bug keychain.
Last year the P-2s sowed our front garden with sunflowers. We grew a wonderful
garden and harvested the seeds. Today we planted the sunflower seeds that we
harvested! Hopefully we can grow hundreds of sunflowers this year.
Year 3 - 6 experimented with Chemical Changes in the kitchen for science. Definitely delicious results so far. A special shout out to Mrs Kelly, Mrs Laidlow and Ms Boal
for the donation of their equipment.
Our student council
voted to participate
in the campaign of
“Fiver for a Farmer’

stricken farmers.
Students and staff
dressed as farmers

fundraiser. Great
community spirit is
alive at Scottville.

Don’t forget to download your child's class Dojo App
directly to your phone or computer to get updated
information on what your child is doing in the
classroom. Your child would have brought home a
number to put in once the App is installed. If your not
sure how to do this, your child’s teacher will be more
than happy to help you with this.
Congratulations to
