PRINCIPAL’S COMMENTS 20th February 2015 ISSUE 2 Don’t forget our SunSmart Policy. Hats to be worn during Terms 1 and 4. Three weeks have gone by so quickly since the start of the 2015 school year. Classes are very active with their learning programs, interschool sport has begun and swimming is due to start soon, for the senior grades. We would like to wish all our families celebrating Lunar New Year on 19th February a very Happy New Year to you all. We have curriculum day coming up on Friday, March the 6 th , which means the teachers will be engaged in professional development during the day and Students Do Not Attend School. Please consider joining our School Council to help work towards making improvements to our school. Being a member of Council gives you an opportunity to help us forge future directions and directly influence the quality of education that is provided for your children. Our Council meets once per month in the staffroom at school, usually at 6pm for approximately one hour. It is a great team of people, who work as one, to help our school. We have 2 x 2year vacancies and 2 x 1year vacancies being advertised. Parent self- nomination forms are available from the office and nominations close Monday March 2. Learning to swim is very important for children and that is why we organise a swimming program for our students each year. This year the response from parents has been slow. Please return the ‘Expression of Interest” note, as soon as possible with the $50 deposit. We need to have over 32 children attend to make the activity viable and to try to keep the cost down. The cost of the lessons is relatively cheap, but the cost of buses is enormous. If we do not get the required number of children attending we will have to cancel this program. Final costing will be determined next week and parents will be informed as soon as possible. This year we have registered with the clean Up Australia Day Council to take part in School’s Clean Up Day which is next Friday 27 th February. All our grades will be outside for some time next Friday cleaning up. Your child’s teacher will let you know when they will be going out and we invite all parents to come along and help. The Fundraising Committee are

holding an Easter Raffle.

To help with our raffle, we are organising an

Out of Uniform Day on

Thursday 5th March

Instead of a gold coin donation, we are asking

families in the Movelle School Community to do-

nate Easter Eggs!

The donated items will then be made into Easter

Hampers, so we can then raffle.

The raffle will be drawn on:

Thursday 26th March

Please give your donation to the

class teacher.

Thankyou for your support

Raffle Tickets will be sent home soon!

Watch NEWS programs as families. Discuss topics and

encourage your child to develop opinions

about current affair issues.

Our ANZAC Remembrance Garden is progressing well.

We now have a large map of Australia finished and the

landscapers will continue work over the weekend to do

the next stage of planting. Please walk around to look

at it. We are all very proud of its development and the

students are starting to plan and rehearse for this

year’s special 100th anniversary of landing of

Australian, New Zealand and allied troops at Gallipoli.

It was the start of the ANZAC tradition that has

become so important to Australian history.

ANZAC GARDEN—PROGRESS

Next Thursday at 3pm, we are inviting any interested

parents / carers to join us in a meeting to discuss how

we can tidy up our garden areas to make the outdoor

environment look great. Everyone is invited, bring

along your ideas to give to the meeting for us to

consider.
