PRINCIPAL’S COMMENTS 13th June 2014 ISSUE 9 Don’t forget our SunSmart Policy. Hats to be worn during Terms 1 and 4. A reminder to all parents that our next Curriculum day will be held on Monday June 23 and the staff will be involved in the first phase of our School Review process that I wrote about a few newsletters ago. Staff will review our performance in regards to Student Achievement, Student Engagement and Student Welfare. I have tried to give parents and carers plenty of time to reorganise the supervision of their children on that day. Thank you. Student achievement reports for mid-year have gone home today. Parents are asked to examine the report and come along to the Student / Parent / Teacher Interviews next week on Wednesday the 18 th . Notes for the interviews should have been returned to the class teacher by now and times will be allocated as soon as possible. Parents are urged to attend the interviews to broaden their understanding of the written report. After over 48 years of service with the Victorian Education Department, Mrs. Fay Pourliakas is retiring. Mrs. Pourliakas started with the Department at the young age of 18 years and 4 months old. She has been at five schools: Newport, Wembley, Stevensville, Albanvale and came to Movelle in 1991. That means she has taught here for 23 years. In that time, Fay has taught hundreds of students across grades 1 to 6. I am sure that they remember Fay as a caring and dedicated teacher, who had high expectations and encouraged students to aim high. She not only taught school subjects, but also provided valuable advice to students on life in general. Currently, Fay teaches Art, Music and Drama and has done so for the past couple of years. School Council is holding a small celebration in honour of the years of service that she has given to the students and families of the Movelle community at the end of term. I am sure there are many past and present students and families that would wish her all the very best in her years of retirement and thank her for her contribution to education.
