Mr Gabrielli’s recent recognition by Energy Intelligence as its 2011 Petroleum Executive of the Year reflects the Petrobras CEO’s stewardship at a time that saw the discovery of huge deep-water subsalt oil and gas reserves in the South Atlantic, establishing Petrobas as a pioneer in deepwater exploration and the dominant force in the development of Brazil’s oil industry. He also hails from a country that has responded radically to geopolitically-driven oil price hikes by turning to sugar cane-derived ethanol in transport fuels.

Mr Jose Sergio Gabrielli de Azevedo took office in July 2005 as the Chief Ex-ecutive Officer of Petrobras. As the company’s CEO, he also holds a seat on the Board of Directors of Petrobras and Petrobras Distribuidora–BR. He is Chairman on the Board of Directors for Petrobras Transporte S.A.–TRANSPETRO, Petro-bras Química S.A.–PETROQUISA, and Petrobras Gás S.A.–GASPETRO.

Mr Gabrielli is also a member of the Board of Directors for Petrobras Biocom-bustível S.A –PBIO. He served as Chief Financial Officer and Chief Investor Relations Officer for Petrobras from February 2003 to July 2005. Since 2006, he has been a member of the UN Global Compact Board. From 2009-2010, he was the Energy Community Leader of the World Economic Forum.

During his tenure at Petrobras, he has been distinguished with top business ex-ecutive awards such as the 2011 Petroleum Executive of the Year by the Energy Intelligence; 2010 Executive of the Year by the World Oil Companies Congress; 2009 and 2010 World’s Best CEOs by BARRON’s Awards; 2009 Person of the Year by the Brazilian-American Chamber of Commerce; 2007 Energy Executive of the Year by Petroleum Economist Awards; 2005 Best Finance Executive in Latin America by International Stevie Business Awards; and 2004 Finance Executive of the Year by the Instituto Brasileiro de Executivos de Finanças–IBEF (Brazilian Institute of Finance Executives). Mr Gabrielli is a Full Professor of Macroeconomics on leave from the Universidade Federal da Bahia– UFBA (Federal University of Bahia). David currently runs the Utility and Smart Energy Services practice in North America for Capgemini. He brings many years of experience in the energy industry covering a wide range of initiatives including multi-state utility mergers, the reorganization of several state run utilities in Europe, and the rollout of smart meter/smart grid across North America. For the past seven years he has been working with the energy market in establishing global professional service models that balance domain knowledge, global delivery, and a high commit-ment to quality. Specific efforts include global models at two of the world’s larg-est energy companies covering over 70 countries and several thousand people.

David holds an undergraduate degree in economics from Vanderbilt University and a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Texas at Austin. David calls Houston home but spends a considerable amount of time working with clients throughout the Americas, Europe and Asia.

John J. Joyce has been the leader of Ambient since 2001, after joining the company in 2000 as Chief Operations Officer. Since taking the reins as Presi-dent and CEO, John has provided Ambient with strategic direction and vision, resulting in a period of unprecedented growth.

John has over 25 years experience as a senior executive working with international utilities and financial industries. Jim Kohlhaas is the vice president of strategic energy programs for SAIC’s Energy, Environment & Infrastructure business unit and has 30 years of experi-ence in large scale systems integration. He is responsible for developing large, key business initiatives that enable significant growth for the organization in energy and environmental markets.

Prior to joining SAIC, Kohlhaas served as vice president of energy initiatives at Lockheed Martin, driving the corporation’s integrated energy strategies. While at Lockheed Martin, he orchestrated the development of the company’s Center for Innovation and ran its Spatial Solutions business. Kohlhaas was one of the first to apply e-business solutions to the intelligence and defense industries. His experience includes integrating energy efficiency, smart grid, renewables, fuel cells, bio energy, waste energy, nuclear energy, and carbon management services to develop and implement a strategic business entrance into the energy market.

After graduating from Pennsylvania State University with a degree in petroleum and natural gas engineering, Kohlhaas began his career in oil production and exploration by working offshore for Texaco as a drilling engineer. Kohlhaas is a certified Program Manager, and a Technical Fellow. He serves on the Pennsyl-vania State University’s College of Information Sciences and Technology advisory board. He was named to Power-Gen International’s Class of 2010 for his leader-ship in the energy business. Kohlhaas is also a “Nifty Fifty” speaker as part of the USA Science and Engineering Festival, inspiring high school students to enter technical and science fields.

Lauren Azar serves as a Senior Advisor to U.S. Secretary of Energy Steven Chu. Previously, Azar was a Commissioner of the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin, where she regulated the electricity, natural gas, telecom and water industries. Aside from her duties as a Wisconsin Commissioner, Azar was a co-founder and served as the first President of the Eastern Interconnec-tion States’ Planning Council (EISPC), an organization of state representatives participating and helping to lead Eastern Interconnection-wide transmission studies. Currently, Azar is working to build energy infrastructure fueled by clean and independent resources.

Roger Ballentine is the Founder and President of Green Strategies Inc., a strategic environmental and energy consulting firm.

Previously, Roger was a senior member of the White House staff, serving President Bill Clinton as Chairman of the White House Climate Change Task Force and Deputy Assistant to the President for Environmental Initiatives. Roger is also the co-founder of American Council on Renewable Energy (ACORE) and a Member of the International Advisory Council of the Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). Roger Ballentine is a Magna Cum Laude graduate of the University of Connecti-cut and a Cum Laude graduate of the Harvard Law School.

Jean-Paul Crouzoulon is Senior Vice President Operations for AREVA Renew-ables, including offshore wind, concentrated solar thermal, and biomass power, and hydrogen storage and distribution activities in North America. Jean-Paul has more than 20 years of experience in the Carbon-free Energy and Electricity, Information Technology, and Outsourcing industries. In 2005, Jean-Paul held the position of Vice President Strategy AREVA North America. In 2008, he led the AREVA project team which designed and signed the ADAGE Joint Venture with Duke Energy, the first biopower partnership in the U.S. between two major energy companies. ADAGE plans to develop, own and operate twelve 50MW biopower energy plants in the U.S. that use clean wood waste to produce green electricity for sale to utilities and municipal electric companies.

In Jean-Paul’s first years with AREVA, he was the Division CEO of Euriware, the Consulting and IT subsidiary of AREVA. He then became Director of Strategic Programs in which he helped coordinate and deploy the worldwide Key Account Management Program for the largest customers in the United States.

Prior to AREVA, Jean-Paul worked for Electronic Data Systems (EDS) where he handled several management positions, and for G.F.I., a former subsidiary of British Petroleum. Jean-Paul holds advanced degrees in Economics, Finance & Fiscal Systems and Marketing from the business school Institut Superieur de Gestion in Paris.

Cheri Collins serves as general manager of external alliances for Southern Nuclear, establishing and maintaining relationships with companies building AP1000 reactors, and is a primary spokesperson for new nuclear development. During her career within the Southern Company system, Collins has held a number of positions, including Plant Manager at the Joseph M. Farley Nuclear Plant near Dothan, Ala. Collins holds a Bachelor of Science degree in structural engineering from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Britta K. Gross is director, global energy systems and infrastructure com-mercialization within GM R&D and Strategic Planning. She is responsible for assessing energy system alternatives and steering the commercialization efforts for new infrastructures required to support GM’s biofuel, battery-electric and hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle programs. She received a degree in electrical engineering from Louisiana State University and studied language arts at the University of Wurzburg in Germany. She serves on the board of directors of the National Hydrogen Association.

Peter Huber is a senior fellow at the Manhattan Institute and the author of nu-merous books and articles on energy, the environment, science and technology, legal policy, scientific evidence, and telecommunications. He has a Ph.D. from MIT and a J.D. from Harvard Law School. His most recent book, co-authored with Mark P. Mills, is The Bottomless Well (Basic Books, 2005).
