GRAHAMVALE PRIMARY SCHOOL
Quality Education for All
Principal - Simone Higgins
Assistant Principal - Peter Frizzell 9/5/2019
Next week our students in Years 3 and 5 will be sitting the NAPLAN tests on
Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. For the first time the students will be doing
these online. Our Parents’ Club will be providing a pancake breakfast on each of
these mornings. I know our students will turn up to school each day ready to do
their personal best.
This week our students in Years 4-6 have been completing the Department's
annual Attitudes to School Survey. The data from these surveys will be available
to us later in the year and we use the feedback from our students to look at
continued ways we can improve the programs we offer. We pride ourselves on
our students feeling connected to their school and proud to be a student at
Grahamvale.
It has been great to see so many mums, nan’s, grandmother’s and special friends
coming to school and sharing lunch with their children. The children truly love
the opportunity - not to mention the chance to have a special lunch. Don’t
forget to send $5 to school with your child tomorrow so they can purchase a
great gift from our Mother’s Day Stall.
Our swimming program has one week to go! This week our students in Years
One and Two have been swimming and next week it is our Foundation students’
turn. Again thank you to all the parents who have been assisting the teachers
during this time.
As a result of parent feedback, a summary of the curriculum outcomes for
reading, writing and number and what students should be achieving at the end
of each year level has been collated. These are now available on our school’s
website for parents to access.
Education Week is fast approaching and it is from this week, when we can
commence taking enrolments for 2020. If you have a child starting school next
year and you haven't let Glenda know, please see her at the office.
Good luck to all our students who are representing the school at tomorrow’s
Division Cross Country event.
Wishing all our mums a very Happy Mother's Day for
Sunday, and we hope you enjoy the gifts your child has
carefully chosen for you.
Simone

LAST DAY OF TERM Early Finish
The Child Safe Standards are compulsory minimum standards for all Victorian early childhood services and schools, to ensure they are well prepared to protect children from abuse and neglect. The standards provide a framework for schools to review existing policies and practices and all other aspects of child safety, to ensure a ‘zero tolerance’ approach to any form of child abuse. You can access our policy on the school’s website.

2019 STUDENT AWARDS
ACADEMIC AWARD
Congratulations to Jamilla from Year 3 Minutoli on receiving the Academic Award. Throughout the year Jamilla has lit up the classroom and the
school with her lovely smile, positive attitude and amazing work
ethic. Jamilla always tries her best and upholds all the values of
Grahamvale Primary School both inside the classroom and in the
yard. Jamilla is a thoughtful student who shows compassion and
care for everyone here at Grahamvale. Jamilla completes her
work by setting the highest of standards with exceptional
neatness and precision. Jamilla always extends her learning by
completing additional work at home and loves sharing her
thoughts, ideas and new found knowledge with the class. Jamilla
is an avid reader who always completes her
work on time and is always looking to
extend and challenge herself. Jamilla is a
master of reading and writing and is always
well prepared, ready to learn and teach!
Jamilla, you should feel very proud of your
efforts and we hope you continue to work
hard by setting the highest of standards.
PRINCIPAL AWARD
Congratulations to Jazmin from Year 2 Keenan on receiving the Principal Award. Jazmin, l have enjoyed watching your
self-confidence grow. You have had a
fantastic start to the school year and
you continually display the school
values at all times. I have enjoyed
seeing the way you approach your
learning and your increased confidence
is reflecting in your achievements.
Keep up this
great work
Jazmin and you
will continue to
achieve great
things.

Mothers’ Day Stall
The Parents’ Club have again organised a super Mothers’ Day stall for all
our students to purchase a present for Mum, Grandma or a special
friend. The stall will be held TOMORROW.
All items will be $5 each. Please send the
money with your children on the day. The
students will go through the stall with their
class with the possibility of purchasing a
second item once everyone has been
through.
School pick up time...
We are noticing more and more students are still not being picked up by
3:45pm. If you are NOT going to be at school by 3:45pm please phone the
school. Staff have professional learning and meetings they are required to
attend. It is also not fair on the students who are left waiting over 25 minutes
from the end of the school day to be picked up. Thank you
for your support and cooperation with this.
Skipping The whole school is currently skipping in Physical Education. The Year 3-6 students are working on making it into the One, Two or Three Minute Endurance Skipping Groups. The junior school are working on improving their skipping technique. I have explained that students will only improve in skipping with lots of work. Therefore if they have a skipping rope at home you could encourage them to go outside and have a practice. The Foundation to Year 2 students will have a skipping event on Wednesday 22nd May – more details will follow.

SHEPPARTON EDUCATION PLAN
GREATER SHEPPARTON COLLEGE (INTERIM NAME) – YEAR 7 CURRICULUM
Greater Shepparton College’s (interim name) vision is to give students the knowledge
and skills to thrive throughout their lives.
As a school, we recognise that each student has different strengths, interests and ways
of learning and to support these different styles we have developed a broad-based
curriculum that will cater to all students. Our focus must be aspirational, for all of our
young people.
The Year 7 program will focus on building confidence and skills in English and Maths,
alongside a full curriculum including the Sciences, Technology and Humanities.
Students will be given the opportunity for extension and accelerated learning, or
alternatively be provided with additional support where needed. There will also be
opportunities to develop foreign language skills and develop their learning with Arts
and Physical Education classes.
As the Executive Principal for the new Greater Shepparton College (interim name),
I will work with you to shape what our school will look like in 2020. I look forward to
using lessons learnt from my previous experience and working with you to deliver
excellent educational outcomes for our young people.
For current Year 6 students and their families, I encourage you to meet me, the school
leaders and teachers at our Year 7 Open Days being held at McGuire College which will
be our Year 7 campus next year. See below for dates and times.
We have grouped primary schools on particular days where possible, however for
the evening Information Sessions parents/carers and students may choose which
Information night suits them to attend. Some are scheduled during the day and some
in the evenings to enable working parents to attend.
McGuire College is located at 92-100 Wilmot Rd Shepparton.
We will also be offering tours of the McGuire campus on Monday, 13 May 2019 from
4.00pm to 6.00pm.
Come and hear about our Year 7 program next year, see our McGuire campus and ask
questions about our new school. The school leaders, Year 7 teachers and I look
forward to meeting you.
