i) ThewallsandotherareasofthePYPBlockhavebeenpaintedwiththemesto
complementtheWholeEducationcurriculum.
ii) TheMusicRoomwaspartitionedtoenablethestudentstopractisetheirskills
without disturbing other groups. New Guitar stands have been installed to
increaseworkspace.
iii) ThePlayareabehindthePrimaryBlockwasequippedwithanewplaystation,
trampolineandamini-obstaclecourse.

b) AsessiononAcademicHonestywastakenacrossallthegradesofMYPinthethirdweek
ofSeptember.TheAssociateMYPCoordinator,Ms.Sony,andtheTeacherLibrarian,Ms.
Prasanna, introduced the concept of academic integrity to the students. Students
learnedtheimportanceofacademichonesty.
c) TOKRetreat:
TOKRetreatwasorganizedforGrade12studentsfor2dayson09&10September2017
atAlankritaResorts.41studentsalongwiththeTOKTeachersattendedthisRetreat.
DiplomastudentsmadetheirfinalTOKpresentationsduringthisRetreat.TOKTeachers
alsounpackedtheTOKEssaytitleswhichwerereleasedbytheIBOduringfirstweekof
September 2017. It was a huge learning experience for all the participants and we
receivedexcellentfeedbackfromthestudentsontheRetreat.

Goal-TodesignanddelivercomputereducationfortheKondakalSecondarySchool,
andrenovateandoperationalizetheComputerlabthere.Thestudentsalsoplantoput
upanexhibitiononComputerLiteracyDay(2ndDec).
WorkinProgress-Fundswereraisedbythestudentsbysellingtheself-made,eco-
friendlyGaneshIdol.
TheComputerRoomhasalreadybeenidentified.Theschoolisassistingwithrepairsof
electricalwiringandtheoldunuseddesktops.TheHouseteachershavesentoutappeals
to students to organize donations of old or discarded computer equipment for this
project.
House:Pegasus
Goal-TosetupaCommunityKitchenthatwillprovidenutritiousmid-daymealstothe
studentsofKondakalvillagefreeofcost.Theprojectwillalsoprovideemploymentto
womenofthevillageastheirserviceswillbelargelyused.
PresentSituation
Thestorageroomthatwillbe
usedforKitchen
Progress–Studentshavebeendividedintogroupsandeachgivenassignedtasks.The
students and teacherswillworkwithpersonnel atNIRD (National InstituteofRural
Development)fortheconstructionofalow-costcommunitykitchen,inthefirstweekof
October.SofarRs12,000/=hasbeencollectedthroughthemakingofGaneshidols.
Aplanhasbeendrawnuptoconducta5kmruninthemonthofNovember.Aninvite
willbesenttoallteachers,studentsandparents.

Planofaction-ToteachCommunicativeEnglishtotheKondakalSecondarySchool
studentsandsetupaSchoolLibraryby15thDecember2017.
Progress:
ThestudentsofPhoenixHousehavevisitedtheschooltwiceandhavealreadycovered
theteachingofgreetings,introducingothers,talkingaboutone’slikesanddislikes,and
tellingthetime.
TosetuptheLibraryattheCommunitySchoolasuccessfulbookdrivewasconducted
from5th–8thSeptemberand110age-appropriatebookswerecollected.Adonationof
Rs.7000wasalsoreceivedfromtheStaffClub.
House:Hercules
Goal-Toimprovethefitnesslevelsandproficiencyinsports,culminatinginacombined
SportsDay (aMeet involving the three community schools in Kondakal,Mokila and
Thanda)hostedonourSchoolgrounds.
Progress-ThestudentsoftheHerculesHousewerebriefedbytheSportsCoacheson
the skills andproceduresof teachingand the responsibility asStudentTrainer.Two
sessionsoftraininghavealreadytakenplaceforKondakalPrimarySchoolforFootball
and Cricket. The Annual Sports Day for the Kondakal Community School has been
plannedinthemonthofJanuary.
4.WholeEducation:
a) PeaktoLead-Mt.Elbrus:
TwostudentsofGrade9fromIndusHyderabad,VigneshKannanandRushilPandya,
madethebravedecisiontoattempttoscaleMtElbrus(5,642m)-TheRoofofEurope.It
isthehighestpeakintheEuropeancontinentandoneoftheSevenSummits.
OurstudentswerepartofagroupthatincludedotherstudentsfromIndusBangalore
thatwenton the trek.WecongratulateVigneshandRushil, for reaching the summit
camp.Theywereforcedtoturnbackthereafterduetoinclementweather.Leadership
isbestlearntexperientiallyandwearesuretheseboyshavelearnedalotabouthowto
lead themselves.Theyareonly inGrade9and theywillnodoubt carry the learning
forwardtodowellinthefutureinotherareas,too.

b) SessiononAffectiveSkills,Grade6:
Grade6hadasessiononAffectiveskillstolearntopracticestrategiestohelpdevelop
mental focus, being aware of one's body-mind connections and to demonstrate
perseverance. To succeed in their endeavors, they have to practice strategies to
overcome impulsiveness, anger, stress, anxiety and practice resilience. They have to
knowhowtofailwellandbouncebackafteradversitiesandfailures.Onewhomasters
theseskillsissuretoleadajoyous,peacefulandsuccessfullife.
c) Royal Commonwealth Essay: Nine students of IISH participated in the Royal
CommonwealthEssayCompetition2017. Over12,300youngpeoplefromacrossthe
Commonwealth entered the Competition. This year’s theme invited young people to
reflectonthetopicof‘ACommonwealthforPeace’.
The Gold certificate was awarded to Utshaa Basu in the Junior Category and Ishita
Chawla in theSeniorCategory.ChaitraReddy received the silver certificate.Avinash
Boddu,Abhishek&Dhevinwonthebronzecertificate.
FivestudentsparticipatedintheUnder-grade6categoryandYuvanKancherlareceived

d) SessiononDeepReading:
MsPushpitaandMsShrishtyconductedasessionforMYPstudentsontheimportance
ofdeepreading.Deepreadingistheactiveprocessofthoughtfulanddeliberatereading
carriedouttoenhanceone'scomprehensionandenjoymentofatextwithaviewtoself-
development and self-directed learning. Contrasted with skimming or superficial
reading,itisalsocalledslowreading.Studentsweregivenasetofbookstodeepread
andmaintainareadinglog.
ThetermdeepreadingwascoinedbySvenBirkertsinTheGutenbergElegies(1994):

f) Telugu Day - We celebrated Telugu Language Day with great enthusiasm on 8th
September. A beautiful and colourful presentation was put by the school Telugu
DepartmenttakingusbacktotheeraofthegreatTelugurulerKrishnadevarayaandhis
courtjesterTenaliRamakrishna.
g) Dr.UshaPasupulaticonductedChildSafetySessionforGrade-10Studentsastheywere
awayforthissessionduringAugustastheyhadgonefortheLeadershipcamp.
h) ThePYPNetworkMusicandDancefestivalwasconductedon14thSeptemberatthe
MeridienSchool.2studentsfromeachofthePYPgradesattendedit.Theylearntvarious
music and dance concepts inworkshops conducted bymusic and dance teachers of
variousPYPschools.
i) BathukammaandNavratricelebrations
ThePYPstudentsdressedtraditionallylookedbrightandadorable.Theyweregivena
briefaboutthereasonforthecelebrationandthedifferentwaysinwhichitiscelebrated
invariouspartsofthecountry.Postthat,theylearnthowtoperformtheBathukamma
andGarbafolkdance.
j) LeadershipCamp-Grade11(16thSeptember-22ndSeptember)
SoonafterthestudentsreachedIndusSchoolofLeadership,thestudentswerebriefed
aboutthefacility,itsperimeters,Dos&Don'tsandothercamp-relatedinformation.
Thewholebatchwasthendividedinto4groupsandeachgroupwasallottedatrainer
andteacherfortherestoftheirtimeatISL.
Asapartof leadership training, the studentswere systematicallyguided through the
followingactivities:
(i) Leadership Disposition Course emphasises teamwork and collaborative
strategies. Students got to experience the idea of risk taking, resilience and
collaboration.Theyunderstoodtheirstrengthsandchallenges.Attheendofit,it
appearedasifeachstudentwasmoreawareofhimselfandherself.
(ii) DiscoveryCourseoftenchallengesallparticipantsastheybalancethemselveson
planksandropes62feetabovetheground.Itinstilledself-confidenceandpushed
theboysandgirlstoout-reachtheirownpotentialandovercometheirfear.
(iii) Apart from this, students also did Pistol Shootingwhich exposed them to the
conceptsofgoalsettingandplanningeffectivelythroughexperientiallearning.
(iv) ConvergentAcidRiverwasacollaborativeactivitywhereateamhadtoworkasa
single unit. Themain aimof this activitywas to help students understand the
importance of collaboration, teamwork and goal-setting through real-life
simulations.
Theirexcitementwaspalpable!Thestudentstrekkeddownhillandafteraboutan
hour of walk, they had then to charter their own course using the map and
compass towards the base camp. Some groups had a tough time missing the
landmarksandlatercorrectingtheircourse.Reachingcampsitetheypitchedtheir
owntentsinthebasecamp,spentthenightamidstnatureandleftearlymorning
backtotheISLcampus.
TheexperiencedtrainersatISLalsoconductedasessionon'LeadershipthroughHistory'
emphasizingtheimportanceofhavingavisioninlife.
Theiroutboundlearningwasmadecompletewithtrekking,cooking,mapreadingand
locating,tentpitchingandotheroutdooractivities.Theylearnedandhadalotoffunwith
activities like river crossing and paintball. The variety of first-hand experiences of
cooking,carryingtheirrawsuppliesintheirbackpacks,cookingwithfirewood,etc.were
thoroughlyenjoyedbythem.
5daysofthistripwerespentasagroupwithampleactivities,collaboration,planning,
goalsettingandreflection.Studentshadtoreflectafterthecompletionofeveryactivity.
They shared their experiences, mistakes made, learning and future applications in
improving theirpersonality. Studentswoundup their final day’s sessionwithoverall
reflection[questionnaire-based]andabonfire.
Students were very thankful to the training crew, the admin support staff and the
cateringdepartment.TheyISLteamwasveryappreciativeofthegroupofstudentsand
advisedthemtousetheirlearninginreallifetoexcelandbecomeleadersoftomorrow.
5. SPORTS:
a) AnInter-SchoolSwimmingmeetwasorganizedbyGlendaleAcademyon1stSeptember
2017.NineSchoolparticipatedintheSwimmingmeet.Morethan250studentsfromnine
schoolsparticipatedinthismeet.OurStudentswon1gold,5silverand5bronzemedals.

AsessiononcommunityprojectwastakenbytheHeadofMiddleSchool,MsBaljeet.The
CommunityProjectisamajoractivityforstudentstocompleteinyearthree(8thgrade)
oftheMYPprogramatIndusInternationalSchool.Thecommunityprojectfocuseson
community and service and gives students an opportunity to develop awareness of
needsinvariouscommunitiesandaddressthoseneedsthroughservicelearning.The
studentshavetoinvestigate,plan,actandreflectontheirproject.Theaimofthisproject
is to serve the community tomake a positive difference in the lives of people. This
projectwouldfinallyculminateinapersonalprojectattheendofyear5inMYP.
b) Anawardtooneofourparents:
Wearehappytoannouncethatoneofourparents,Dr.MarkandeyaGorantla(CMDand
ChiefScientificOfficeratATGCBiotechPvt.Ltd.)hasbeenpresentedwithanawardfor
“Best Innovator of Year 2017” in the field of agriculture by the Department of
Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India. The award was presented by the
HonourableUnionMinisterforScienceandTechnologyfor innovativetechnologyfor
pestcontrolmanagementwithouttheuseofharmfulchemicalpesticides.
ThisisthefirstsuchawardforTelanganaandAndhraPradeshState.Congratulations,
Dr.Gorantla.
c) CEO’sVisittoIISH:
Our CEO Lt. Gen Arjun Ray, PVSM, VSM (Retd.) visited IISH on 1st Sept 2017. He
addressedourTeachersabouttheroleof theTeachers inthe21stCentury.Withthe
digital revolution replaced by the new age revolution of AI (Artificial Intelligence)
teachersmaybecomeobsoleteiftheyarenotprepared.Inordertopreparechildrenfor
the jobs that do not exist, Teachers have to teach the child and not the subject by
unlockingtheirpotential, teachwhatgooglecannotteachandengagethestudents in
self-directedlearning.
Inshort,themantraofTeacher21isInnovationandDesignThinkingandthiscanbe
achievedthroughthepedagogyofthenewcurricula:
a) Coding,mathskills,
b) Applicationofcontent(criticalthinking&creativity)
c) Inter-disciplinaryknowledge

d) FirstinMathWorkshop:
Our school has tied up with First inMath to subscribe to an online application to
enhance the Math skills of our students in PYP & MYP. This platform provides the
students with self-paced practice sets for each topic aligned with the curriculum
andMathgamestoenhancelogicalandcriticalthinkingskills.Students'performance
willbecloselymonitoredbytheteacherandthetop3playersofthedaywillbeawarded
'Player of the Day' badges on a daily basiswhichwillmotivate the students. Those
studentswhoshowconsistentimprovementintheirperformancewillalsobeawarded
certificates.
MrNirdoshMathurfromFirstInMathconductedanorientationsessionforourMath
Teachers&PYPGradeTeachers. Teacherswere givenhands-onpracticeduring this
session.
Studentshadasmallintroductionsessionon19September2017forthesameandthey
wereprovidedwiththeirusernameandpasswords.Asecondsessionwasconductedon
20 September 2017. Students can access this website on their
computer/laptop/tablet/smartphone.Theyweregiven10tasksonthistoolaspartof
theirholidayhomework.Studentswereencouraged tocompletemore taskson their
owntoenhancetheirskills.
e) WorkshoponEmotionalIntelligenceforTeachers:
AworkshoponEmotionalIntelligencewasconductedon16September2017forallthe
teachers.DanielGolemanandotherrespectedauthoritiesonthesubjectofEmotional
Intelligencebelievethatitisanecessity,anindispensablequalityforaleadertopossess.
ThisworkshopwasconductedusinganewmodelcreatedbyHarvardUniversity‘Teams
atWork–Emotional Intelligence’.Teachersweregiventhe followingarticlestoread
twoweekspriortotheWorkshop.

it.
Asitwasaninteractivesession,thestudentswereaskedtogivetheirresponses,views,
andopinionsontheBlueWhalegameanditseffects.Thestudents’readinesslevelswere
checkedbyaskingopen-endedquestionswhichthusfacilitatedhealthydiscussionon
thesameissue.
Themain focus of the session was on the causes and the strategies to avoid being
trappedinthegame.
