Principal Report
Term 3 Week 4 2019
WHAT WAS SO GREAT THIS WEEK It had been an exciting Science Week, with a number of classes getting into the theme of ‘Destination Moon’. Some classes went in a totally different direction but still had fun investigating and being scientists. I’m sure parents have had the chance to see photos on Instagram of activities happening in the classrooms. SCHOOL PHOTOS Unfortunately, last week we had to postpone school photos after the power went out at 8.30am. Even though it came back on during the morning there would not have been enough time to get everyone’s photo taken. The very windy weather didn’t make for very good conditions to be taking photos outside, which is where we like to do the class group photos. But we have locked in an alternate date for this term, 4th September, which is week 7. Look forward to seeing everyone looking their best in full school uniform. Photo money will need to be sent in on the day again. SOUTHERN STARS Next week some of our students will be making there way to Wollongong to spend a couple of days practicing and performing at one of the biggest events in Public education. Southern Stars Spectacular is a fantastic event that gives our students a wonderful experience of performing in front of thousands of people. I know that they have been doing a great job so far practicing and learning their performance and they are very excited about next week, they will do a fantastic job representing our school. None of this would have been possible if not for the dedication and experience of the teachers supporting, Mrs Atkins, Miss Hall and Miss Connelly, have given up a lot of their own time to give this opportunity to our students and I would like to thank them for all their efforts. BOOK WEEK I hope everyone had locked in their book character parade costumes ready for next Tuesday. It is going to be another action packed fun filled day. I look forward to seeing everyone’s costumes and the happy smiling faces as they arrive at school. MICHAEL CARR-GREGG I have included another snippet of information from the Michael Carr-Gregg presentation. His third pearl of wisdom for raising great kids. ‘When we’re together everything’s better. When children have good friendships and a feeling of belonging it helps to create positive mental health. There are some helpful things that parents can do to support and help children build great friendships. Belinda Doyle (Principal) POSITIVE AFFIRMATION FOR KIDS I get better every single day.

BOOK WEEK CELEBRATIONS 2019
This year all students at SPPS have written and published texts to share during
Book Week.
Writing like an author
In Term 1, all classes conducted author studies where they enjoyed and examined a
variety of texts written by different authors. Throughout the term students learnt
about how authors write, the writing process and the techniques authors use.
Students also were lucky enough to meet Matt Cosgrove and Tim Harris (published
children’s authors) who provided valuable insights into the process that writers go
through, right up to publishing their work.
In Term 2, the focus was on students writing like authors and developing their own
published texts for Book Week. Classes determined the audience and purpose for
their writing and students learnt about the writing process by being actively engaged
in the planning, composing, reviewing and publishing of their work.
Book Week will be celebrated at our school in Week 5 of this term. During this week,
all students will have the opportunity to showcase their efforts with other students,
parents and the wider community. As part of the sharing, there will be an emphasis
on students demonstrating their understanding of the writing process as well as their
reflections on writing like an author. This will happen in classrooms after the Book
Character Parade.
