Host your special day in one of Edmonton’s most unique historical venues, the Prince of Wales Armouries.
Traditional 19th Century elegance and architecture reflective of a bygone era awaits you at the Prince of
Wales Armouries, located at 10440 – 108 Avenue. This former drill hall, originally built in 1915, was
inspired by medieval castles with a turret in each corner. In 1993 the Province of Alberta declared the
building a Historical Resource.
Completed in 1915, the Edmonton Drill hall was a military training site for the Department of National
Defense until 1977. Over the years it was home to several regiments, including the Loyal Edmonton
Regiment, as well as a number of corps signal men and medical personnel.
Ownership of the Prince of Wales Armouries (as it was re-named in 1921) was transferred to the City of
Edmonton in 1982 and it hosted a variety of organizations and community groups like the Cadets and
the Edmonton Food Bank. After much consideration of its future, the City began renovations to create a
new home for the City of Edmonton Archives inside the old drill hall.
Whether you use the Governor’s Room (maximum capacity of 100 people) or the Jefferson Room
(maximum capacity of 130) the Armouries historic elegance will be something your guests will talk about
for years to come. Daytime ceremonies are available any time between 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM and are for a
three hour time period which includes time for you to decorate. Receptions can begin at 6:00 PM and
must end by 1:00 AM. Set up can begin any time after 4:00 PM.
Located on the 2nd floor, the Governor’s Room is warmed by the flickering light of a gas fireplace and
soft overheard lights. The beautiful hardwood maple floors complement the original rosewood
wainscoting, trim, and ceiling beams.
