1 Product Overview The PRIMERGY 10/40GbE Connection Blade 18/8+2 is an integrated 10/40Gbit Ethernet switch for PRIMERGY BX900/BX400 Blade Server System. This product has the 3 types of mode. The “Switch mode” provides normal Ethernet switching function. “IBP (Intelligent Blade Panel) mode” provides the easy configuration for Blade server system and EHM (End Host Mode) provides loop guard at uplink port by prohibiting the forwarding between uplinks. The PRIMERGY 10/40GbE Connection Blade 18/8+2 provides the following hardware configuration. - 18 internal 10GBASE-KR ports connected to servers through chassis backplane (18 downlink ports) - 8 external Small Form-Factor Pluggable Plus (SFP+) based ports (8 uplink ports) - 2 external Quad Small Form-Factor Pluggable Plus (QSFP+) based ports (2 uplink ports) - 1 internal console port connected to management blades through chassis backplane - 1 10/100BASE-T port connected to management blades through chassis backplane

1.1 Description of Hardware This section shows front panel description and overview of the hardware specifications.

1.1.1 Front Panel Description Figure 2 shows 8 SFP+ based ports, 2 QSFP+ based ports, LED and in the Front Panel.

SFP+ based ports (A) The PRIMERGY 10/40GbE Connection Blade 18/8+2 has 8 SFP+ based ports in front panel the port number is assigned from 19 to 26. (The downlink port numbers are assigned from 1 to 18 corresponding with server blade slots number)

QSFP+ based ports (B) The PRIMERGY 10/40GbE Connection Blade 18/8+2 has 2 QSFP+ based ports in front panel the port number is assigned as 27 and 31.

2 Getting Started This chapter describes how to install and configure the PRIMERGY 10/40GbE Connection Blade 18/8+2 for getting started and how to check the system and maintenance information. 2.1 Installing Connection Blade in PRIMERGY BX900/BX400 Blade

Chassis Install Connection Blade in PRIMERGY BX900/BX400 Blade Chassis with the following procedure. Step1: Insert the Connection Blade with the eject lever open in PRIMERGY BX900/BX400 Blade Chassis Step2: Push the eject lever and close it.

2.2 Installing SFP+/QSFP+ Module in Connection Blade Install SFP+/QSFP+ module in Connection Blade with the following procedure. Step1: Insert the SFP+/QSFP+ module with the lever closed in SFP+/QSFP+ port of Connection Blade Step2: Attach optical cable when SFP+/QSFP+ module are used.

2.3 Configure serial console connection This section shows how to set up serial console connection to access connection blade CLI Step1: Connect MMB and PC console port with a console cable. Or use a telent / SSh session to the MMB

via LAN. Step2: For serial console connection, configure terminal software in PC as follows. - 8 data bits, 1 stop bit and no parity - 115200 baud - No flow control Step3: Login MMB CLI. (username : admin, password : admin by default)

In case of BX900 chassis Step4: Enter 3 in Console Menu. Step5: Console Redirection Table Menu appears. Then select 1 to open Console Redirect Connection Blade Menu Step6: Enter the connection blade number which you’d like to configure. Then, we can access Connection

2.5 Changing Switch Mode , IBP Mode and EHM There are 3 modes for this product Switch mode, IBP mode and EHM. EHM is its default mode. Switch mode works as normal Layer2 switch. EHM is basically the same as switch mode, but it prohibit the forwarding between uplinks and STP configuration to prevent uplink Loop by some mistakes. IBP mode is prepared for easy configuration so that a server administrator can configure it. Refer to other manuals to know the detail of these mode To change current mode, execute the following commands.

2.7 Configuration files The PRIMERGY 10/40GbE Connection Blade 18/8+2 has 2 configuration files for each EHM configuration, switch mode configuration and IBP mode configuration.

2.7.1 Changing startup configuration file To change startup configuration file, The command, reset configX(X=1 or 2), can change it. the following example shows the changing from config1 to config2.

2.7.2 Checking configuration file The current applied configuration (running-config) can be checked by show running-config command The configuration applied at next boot (startup-config) can be checked by show startup-config command

2.7.4 Backup/Restore configuration We can backup the configuration to server or restore it by downloading configuration file from server. FTP or TFTP protocol can be used. FTP server function is activated in this product. Therefore, we can access it by FTP client and put or get its configuration to backup or restore. We can backup or restore the configuration by copy command on CLI if using TFTP server. Backup by FTP server can be done as following. (This example is on Window OS command prompt.) Backup by TFTP server can be done as following. (On the assumption that TFTP server is already prepared.) This command example shows storing config1 as the name of <file name> to TFTP sever. Restore by TFTP server can be done as following. (On the assumption that TFTP server is already prepared.) This command example shows downloading <file name> from TFTP server as config1. Then reset the switch by assigning next-boot configuration file Restring the configuration by FTP/TFTP needs the switch reboot.

2.7.5 Clearing Configuration Clearing the configuration can be done by reset clear command. 2.8 Updating Firmware Updating Firmware can be done by FTP as the following procedures. (This example is on Window OS command prompt.) The new firmware is applied after reset. In case of TFTP, updating firmware can be done as the following.

3 Exchange procedure This chapter explains how we can exchange to a spare part.

3.1 Caution when exchanging 1. Please use the antistatic wristband when exchanging and use antistatic mat when you put this product temporary on

somewhere else.

2. Redundancy configuration such as using multiple switches and teaming configuration is needed when exchanging this product without stopping network. Please check configuration and consult with system administrator when you exchange this product.

3. LAN port should be disabled from server blade side when exchanging switchblade if possible. LAN port on Server Blade will link-up automatically when installing it in a chassis. Therefore, the ports become active before configuration restore is completed when Active-Active teaming or Active-Standby teaming with Failback enable are configured.

4. We recommend to use latest version Firmware for all switch blades in the system though the products can be used with several firmware version mixed environment as its spec.

3.2 Exchange Procedure example

This section explains the example exchange procedure. ① Change the configuration such as remote notification/alarm service in your system to prevent the system from sending

alert if needed.

② Check the connecting cable and modules location of the switch.

③ Take the defect switchblade information. show△tech-support command can take the almost logs. (If it cannot be taken due to power supply defects or something, please go forward without taking logs.)

④ Check the firmware version and active firmware mode (Switch/IBP/EHM) of the target one.

⑤ Take the configuration backup file when you do not have it. (If you cannot take the configuration backup and do not have the file, you have to configure all of them manually.) Check which config file(config1 or config2) is used by show△system△information before backup. (Refer to Chapter 2. to know how we can backup)

⑥ Remove the target switchblade Remove all the cables and modules from the target switchblade. Then, remove that switchblade from the chassis. There are release latch on switchblade (green one.). Slide it to the right side and open it. Then pull out the switchblade to remove from the chassis.

⑦ Install the spare part. Refer to Chapter 2 to know how to install the Connection Blade. Note: Don’t connect the cables before configuration restore is finished.

⑧ Update Firmware. Refer to Chapter 2 to know how to update the Firmware

⑨ Configure Firmware active mode and IP address. Refer to Chapter 2 to know how to configure them.

⑩ Restore the configuration.(Refer to Chapter 2 to know how to do it.)
