UKS2 Reading Part 1: Goldilocks - the #Cautionary Tale

Please read this story. It can help us get into the feel of rhythm and rhyme for own buddy books and also help us understand some things to be careful about when making our film! Goldilocks Link (About 15 mins.)

UKS2 Writing:(LQ: Be able to construct a rhyming text that has a strong repeating pattern for a particular audience.)

We still have many more poems to write to go with our buddy books. As we said yesterday, the rhyming pattern is important. However, we also need the stanzas to have a good repeating rhythm. We need to pay attention to the length and stressed (and unstressed) syllables. Have a look at this page to help you understand… https://www.poetry4kids.com/lessons/rhythm-in-poetry-the-basics/

Remember, the format we need is… One stanza of 4 lines explaining the problem the creature was having. Then a second stanza of 4 lines explaining how or why the creature gives the child the letter. In both stanzas it is the 2nd and 4th lines that rhyme. The pattern is A, B, C, B then D, E, F, E

T – Please try 2 stanzas for another creature.OK – Please try the same for two different creatures.C – Please try to make as many pairs of stanzas as you can for the creatures you have sent in.Look at these great examples sent in by the class for some inspiration…

This week collect as many things as you can around home – or your space at school that are GREEN.

Why should we be grateful for these things? Are we thankful enough for all the things that God has given us?

Write a prayer to accompany the green of your prayer rainbow.

Why not take a photo of your green things or your prayer, if you do, please share it with us. Send it to:

[email protected] and we can create our own rainbow prayer through photos.

UKS2 Science / Geography / PSHE:(LI: Understand cold water shock, water safety and the potential dangers of some open water sites.) Today Y5 have been learning about temperature in maths. It has been quite worrying seeing the number of people coming to Chipstead Lake with swimming gear in the hot weather. There are a number of dangers that people may not be aware of and ‘cold water shock’ due to the temperature difference is one of them. Please research cold water shock and make a safety poster using the links below to help you.

https://firstaidforlife.org.uk/cold-water-shock/ https://www.daera-ni.gov.uk/news/quarry-water-stone-cold-killer-stay-out-stay-alive There are other dangers too. Research the dangers of swimming in lakes generally with websites such as this... https://waterpark.org/the-dangers-of-swimming-in-the-lakes/ https://www.lymmhigh.org.uk/2018/07/02/water-safety-the-dangers-of-cooling-off-in-open-water/

Chipstead Lake used to be a quarry and is far deeper than people realise, with very steep sides in places. Read this information about the quarry and try to write down

what other dangers may occur due to its construction and use.
