Year R expectations:By the end of Autumn Term children must be able to:

Recognise and order numbers to 10 Count up to 10 objects using 1:1 correspondence Recognise basic 2D shapes (square, triangle, circle, rectangle, pentagon and

hexagon) Order objects by size

By the end of Spring Term:

Recognise and order numbers to 20 Count up to 20 objects using 1:1 correspondence Begin to identify properties of 2D shapes Repeat, create and describe 2/3 step patterns Understand addition and subtraction and the symbols +/-/= Talk about weight (heavy/light), size (big/small), length (short/long), capacity

(full/empty) and position (behind, next to, in front, above)

By the end of Summer Term:

Recognise and order numbers to 50 Write numbers to 20 Begin to understand halving, doubling and sharing Name 3D shapes Begin to solve 1 step word problems Talk about money (pence/pounds) and recognise coins (1p, 2p, 5p, 10p, 20p) To know o’clock time and draw hands on clock

Ongoing: Know the number bond rap to 10 Counting (forwards and backwards) in 1s to 100 Count in 5s to 100 and 10s to 100 Say 1 more/1 less to 20

Read and write numbers to 50 Order numbers to 100 Use a structured number line to solve addition/subtraction

e.g. 28 + 26 = 54

Name 2D and 3D shapes Use non-standard measure Recognise coins (50p, £1, £2) and their values (20p = 20x1p 10p = 5x2p)

By the end of Spring Term:

Read and write numbers to 100 in numerals Solve missing number problems e.g. 7=? – 9, 11-9=?, 11-?=7 Use an unstructured number line to solve addition/subtraction Explain arrays as repeated addition Recognise 1/2 and 1/4 of an object, shape or quantity Begin to talk about 2D and 3D shape properties Tell time to the nearest half hour and to draw hands on the clock

By the end of Summer Term:

Begin to partition numbers to 50 into 10s and ones e.g. 43 = 4 tens and 3 ones Be able to solve word problems including addition and subtraction Begin to use standard measures (cm, m, g, kg, ml, l)

Ongoing: Know number bonds to 20 Counting forwards and backwards in 1s to 100 Count in multiples of 2s, 5s, 10s to 100 forwards and backwards Say 1 more/1 less to 100

Year 2 expectations:By the end of Autumn Term children must be able to: Partition tens and ones into different ways e.g. 53 = 5 tens and 3 ones 4 tens and 13 ones 3 tens and 23 ones Compare numbers by using < (less than) > (greater than) = (equal) Recognise number bonds to 20 using addition and subtraction and derive facts e.g. 7+3=10 70+30=100 100=70+30 Add and subtract using an unstructured number line

By the end of Summer Term: Consolidate multiplication and division (including remainders) Be able to solve word problems including fractions, multiplication, division Understand measure- length, temperature, mass and capacity e.g. 10mm=1cm, 1kg=1000g Describe position and direction- angles, turns, rotation and symmetry

Ongoing: Know number bonds to 20 Recognise odd and even numbers Understand halving and doubling Counting forwards and backwards in to 100 in various patterns Rote count times tables 2s, 3s, 5s, and 10s e.g. Know 10 more/10 less than a number Write numbers to 100 in numerals and words
