Hey year 2!

We hope you are all ok and enjoying learning at home.

English

This week we would like you to write a story using one of the pictures from below. Remember everything we have done in school so far such as:

Adjectives (describing words) Conjunctions (and, but, so, because, when, if, yet) Adverbs (worlds that end in ‘ly’) Basic punctuation – making sure sentences start with a capital letter and end in a full stop Sentences making sense and having a ‘who’ and ‘do’ Starting sentences in different ways.

Spelling activities

Your spelling list this week is below. Try and learn this so you can spell them correctly. Remember to use the look, cover, write, check sheets and try to find out what each words means so you can include them in a sentence. You could ask an adult this or use the internet so find the definition out.

Maths

This week is all about addition! Use methods that we have learned in school to answer the sums. You all have a maths revision guide which will explain how to work things out if you have forgotten! Remember to draw tens and ones and work it out that way. You also need to keep practicing your times tables by counting in either 2s, 3s, 5s and 10s.

Reading comprehension

This week, can you re-tell one of your favourite stories? You might want to do this my drawing a story map and adding in key words. You might want to complete a book review sheet. It is your choice!

Topic – RE

This week, every afternoon will be based on RE. we are thinking about how and why do we celebrate special and sacred times? Discuss with an adult a special time you celebrate (birthdays, Christmas, Easter etc) and what does the word celebration mean. What do other religions celebrate/ is it the same or different to Christians? Explore the Easter story and find out about:

Holy week – Jesus riding on a donkey, washing his friends feet, resurrection on Sunday morning Jesus and his disciples Easter celebrations such as Palm Sunday, Easter Sunday, light and joy of Easter day.

Can you compare our Easter celebrations to Jewish celebrations and their way of life? (Shabbat, Pesach, Chanukah, Sukkot)

Handwriting

Use the handwriting book to practice the alphabet (lower and upper case), days of the week, months of the year, different phonetic sounds.

Reading

Remember to read and enjoy books too! We have made sure you have lots of books at home so enjoy reading them and talking about them with an adult. Use the content domain questions to ask questions whilst reading too.

Keep using the revision guides you have at home and the packs with maths and reading questions in. We hope to see you all soon! Stay safe, be kind and keep learning!

Love,

Miss Kidd and Miss Booth xx
