Our school’s success lies with the involvement of our teachers in their student’s daily lives. It is they who make the school a second home for the children. On September 5 th 2018, students of Grade Four put up a special assembly to celebrate the contributions made by the educators in IISP. They also presented each teacher with a beautiful thoughtful note and a rose. Ganesh Assembly: On 10th September, Students of Grade Two and Grade Three hosted an informative assembly on Ganesh Chaturthi. Starting from the mythological story of Ganesha’s birth to how Lokamanya Tilak changed the festival to inspire the freedom movement in Maharashtra, our students engaged the entire PYP in an interactive session. Hindi Diwas (14th September): Hindi was declared the national language of the country on 14th September 1949. Though India is diverse in culture and languages, Hindi is one language that is spoken in majority of the states and unifies us all. Our students presented an enjoyable assembly which showcased the rich Indian culture. They took immense pride in learning the national language and demonstrated the same through this special assembly.

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Primary Years Programme (PYP):

Teachers Day Celebration: Teachers play a pivotal role in shaping the future of

their students. Our school’s success lies with the involvement of our teachers in

their student’s daily lives. It is they who make the school a second home for the

children. On September 5th 2018, students of Grade Four put up a special

assembly to celebrate the contributions made by the educators in IISP. They also

Ganesh Assembly: On 10th September, Students of Grade Two and Grade

mythological story of Ganesha’s birth to how Lokamanya Tilak changed the

festival to inspire the freedom movement in Maharashtra, our students

engaged the entire PYP in an interactive session.

Roald Dahl Day (19th September): Roald Dahl the, most beloved author of our

times has inspired children the world over to read with his witty and thought

provoking tales. On the occasion of this great author’s birthday, PYP students

were engaged in various fun filled and engaging activities. Grade 1 and 2

walked the ramp, dressed up as their favourite Roald Dahl character marking

19th September a “Dahlicious Dress Up Day”. Grade 3, captured their dreams

in a dream jar and participated in a quiz about the author while grade 4 was

engaged in spinning tales like the legendary writer. Our Grade 5 Eagles

conducted an in-depth research on the life and works of the author and

created a time line of his major life events.

Middle Years Programme (MYP & IGCSE):

Academic subcommittee meetings for all grades were completed with the

respective grade representatives to provide the details of the curriculum. An

orientation to MYP assessments was conducted with Grade 6 parents by the

Head of School, Ms Rachel Satralkar. Another session for specific subject

understanding will be taken at the time of Parent Teacher Meeting (PTM).

The students were assigned the house projects for the year and the house

masters began the work on community service projects with their respective

teams. The activity club choices were finalized and the PSAT and SAT training

began for students.

Sessions on bullying and cyber bullying were conducted for all students by the

school counselor in conjunction with the ICT teachers. The objective of the

session was to sensitize the students towards different forms of cyber bullying

and make them aware of the implications- legal and otherwise.

Students of the IGCSE completed their first mid-term examinations while MYP

completed their first unit assessments.

Diploma Programme (IBDP):

To foster the core values of Love, Empathy, Discipline and Respect and build a

strong sense of service amongst our students, four house projects have been

introduced as a part of CAS (Community, Activity and Service) this year.

Completely student-led projects, these tasks will be planned, finalised and

executed by the students.

Leadership Curriculum - Workshops were conducted for Grades 11 and 12

students on the Vision Alignment, Importance of Goal setting, and Setting

goals for Academic and Self- growth. After the completion of Learning How to

Learn module, the students (Grade 11) have now started with the book ‘Man’s

search for meaning’ by Viktor E Frankl. The students have completed their first

reflection where they have highlighted the key concepts and ideas derived

from the book.

An EE session and a formal mentor-mentee session was conducted for Grade

12 students in the month of September. The objective was to take stock of the

status of the submissions so far and address academic concerns, if any.

Open Forum for Grade 12 parents was organised on 15th Sept to facilitate an

open dialogue between parents and the SMT, to discuss any academic issues.

Academic subcommittee meeting was held on 21st September to discuss on

the academic developments in the IBDP programme.

Activities clubs (paid and unpaid) were successfully conducted for the month of

September. In collaboration with Goonj Foundation, our students collected a

huge amount of relief material to aid the Kerela flood victims.

Cyber bullying sessions were conducted by our school counsellor Ms Priyanka

on 17th and 18th of September. The objective of the session was to sensitize

the students towards different forms of cyber bullying and make them aware

of the implications- legal and otherwise.

Mid-term examination was conducted for Grades 11 and 12 from 18th to 29th

September.

YEAR 12 PARENT WORKSHOP

On Saturday, September 29th, we had approximately 40, Year 12 Parents in

attendance for a three-hour session of presentations and question/answers

INDIVIDUAL COUNSELING

Placements team have met with 90% of all students and parents in Year 12 for

final completion of university choice lists. Approximately 30 students will be

applying Early Decision or Early Action before Nov 15th. Many more students

will be applying to the University of California system between November 1

and November 30.

They have also met for an initial meeting with our PAC Sub-committee with

three PAC members present along with three parent representatives.

Boarding:

Ganesh Chaturthi Celebrations: Ganesh Chaturthi was celebrated at IISP with

devotional fervour and fanfare. Lord Ganesh Idol was welcomed from the main

entrance of the school through a procession leading to the foyer of the senior

boy’s hostel. The entire boarding community of students and staff led the

procession singing and dancing with vociferous drum beats adding to the

excitement. Arthi and Pooja were performed seeking the blessings of Lord

Ganesh. The students sang devotional songs and sweets were distributed to

everyone. The junior children from grades one to nine played Treasure hunt

earlier and were completely engrossed in their hunt for the treasure. They

solved puzzles and completed interesting tasks to get the clues that led them

to the treasure hunt.

It was a day to remember for every one as the flavour of festivity filled the air.

After being at IISP for three days, Lord Ganesh was given a send-off with the

same fanfare as was done to welcome him. The Lord Ganesh Idol was taken

through a procession by the school staff and was immersed in Manas Lake.

Food festival: The long week end needed some exciting, away from the

ordinary experience for students. What better way to start the long week end

than a lip-smacking experience of fabulous food varieties. The Food Festival

held on Saturday (22.09.2018) was an exciting experience of food for the

students who had a great time tasting the assortment of foods that were made

live in various food stalls inside the School Dining Hall. The food items that

were served included Hot Dogs (Chicken and Veg), Dosa (paneer, masala and

cheese), Fried Chicken with sausage, French Fries, Rasgulla and soft drinks.

It was a refreshing food experience for the students who loved evert bit of it.

Sports:

The International Board School Sports Organization (IBSO) has organized Inter

School National Swimming competition hosted by MIT Vishwashanti Gurukul

School, Loni, Pune on 7th to 9th Sept, 2018. Our Swimming team competes

against 25 schools participated and showed impressive performance with the

result of 19 medals in different events.

• We would like to congratulate our Grade 12 student Sharon Shaju George,

who has participated in the Junior National championship which was held in

Balewadi stadium, Pune. She has won gold medals in 50mt Breaststroke and

100mt Breast stroke and met the national record. She participated in the

Senior State Swimming championship, which is held in Mumbai, won Bronze in

200mt Breast stroke and Silver in 4x100mt Medley relay. Also, she participated

in Swimming Zonal competition organised by the Pune district Zila Parishad,

which is held in Solapur and won 3 Gold medals in 50mt, 100mt & 200mt

Breast stroke. Congratulations Sharon once again!

• The International School Sports Association (ISSA) and the City Sports

Foundation has organized an Inter School football competition for Under 10,

Under 12 & Under 14 at The Chonde Patil Sports complex at Pimpri, Pune on

22nd and 23rd Sept, 2018. The students showed disciplined and quality

performance as they worked as a team. Our Under 12 Boys secured Runner up

place. The Under 10 and Under 14 boys showed their potential, true

sportsmanship spirit along with shared determination and managed to end

with the semi-finals.

• Students were involved in specific strength and endurance training to their

respective sports in the Whole Education lessons. In MYP PHE subject, Grades

6-9 students are enjoying the first unit and prepared their summative

assessment routines in an organised manner through Self- defence skills, Mass

drill and Aerobics dance movements.

• Students of Grades 4 and 5 were involved in sports activities as a part of PYP

PE Learning with football skills. Football skills like Toe tap, Side tap, Dribbling

and Passing, Partner passing. A simple series of drills that will improve players

dribbling and passing skills.

• The Grade 1 and 3 students were involved with recreation activities. Grade 1

students played Dragon chain and leg cricket. The objective of leg cricket to

score as many runs as possible against the opponent in cricket and know the

cricket rules and regulations to pass a hula hoop along a circle of people. The

Grade 3 students were involved with Tug of war. The objective of tug of war is

for each team to pull the rope along with the members of the opposition team

to their side.

• The Grade 2 Students explored different types of ladder drills in this Unit.

Ladder agility drills are an excellent way to improve foot speed, agility,

coordination and overall quickness. Mr Nitish was invited in Grade 2 for a

Guest lecture on the importance of exercise and how to keep yourself fit.

• Also, our little ones, Reception and Prep.1 explored with obstacles course,

Throwing and Catching activity. The objectives of these activities were to

develop fine and gross motor skills such as Walking, jumping, running,

balancing movements. Prep 2 explored themselves through team play which is

integrated with their 1st unit of enquiry ‘Who We Are’. To understand these

unit children were taught about sharing, fair play, discipline, responsibility and

safety. Also they were involved with numerical and alphabetical activities

which focuses on space awareness, hopping and jumping as well as learning

about Number and alphabet.
