HOW DOES SPORT WORK AT APPLEWOOD?

Sport is an integral part of our School’s Education Policy.

Applewood is a small school and as such, each and every child is required to take part in the sport offered for the term and

where possible, to take part in matches. This teaches the pupils that are strong at sports to be mindful of and patient with

those that aren’t, and it teaches those that aren’t, to give and strive for their best in a team environment. We embrace our

beautiful environment and play sports which we can grow old playing.

PA The Parents Association perform a critically important function in our school. Parents give up of their free time to serve on

this committee. Each class has a representative who attends meetings and is responsible for communication within the

grade. The primary functions of this association are those of fundraising and communication. The PA will cater for

functions, meetings and visiting sports teams. They will also organise annual fundraising events for the school. This body of

parents has no statutory, or governance function in the school, but rather exists to serve and assist with the school’s

functioning.

Hair must be evenly graded. No steps are permitted. Sideburns may reach no longer than halfway down the ear.

Hairstyles likely to cause comment or distraction are unacceptable within the School context.

The decision of the school with regard to judgement on what will be allowed is final.

are issued in Term 2 and Term 4. These not only reflect academic progress, but also sporting, cultural and personal

development.

SCHOOL FUNCTIONS

We encourage parents to attend all functions held at the school.

FUNDRAISING

The school relies on fundraising to fund various projects. Parents will be asked to assist in anyway that they can with

fundraising initiatives. Funds raised will go to the development and upkeep of facilities in our school. We are a non-profit

organisation.

HEALTHY SCHOOL LUNCH BOX PLAN Here is a 4 step approach that can be used alongside the Lunch Box Plan to give you some ideas on how to build a healthy

lunch box – get the kids involved in choosing which foods they would like from each box every day:

1. Choose your protein for strength from box 1.

2. Add your starchy carbohydrates for energy from box 2.

3. Make sure you have some friendly fats from box 3 (either on the protein or carbohydrates) – if not then choose

some healthy fats like nuts to snack on.

4. Choose some Fruit & Veggies from box 4 (can add a dip for veggies).

5. Don’t forget the beverages, encourage at least 6-8 glasses of water per day (2 x 500ml bottles). Go easy on Fruit

Juices, they are high in fruit sugars and best diluted - it is better to eat fresh whole fruits.

BOX 1: PROTEIN FOR STRENGTH

(can be snack on its own or a topping on a sandwich)

Boiled Egg Grated Cheese / Cheese Slices Chicken / Beef strips Tuna Low Fat Yogurt Lean Biltong Shaved Cold Meat Humus / Tzatziki / Yogurt dips Chickpeas/ Beans/ Lentils

good option)

BOX 3: FRIENDLY FATS
