WeexpectexcellentattendancefromallstudentsinthePrimarySchool.Thebilingualprogramme isveryacademicallydemanding,andstudentssimplycannotaffordtohavenon-essentialabsences.
StudentattendanceiscloselymonitoredandabsencescanonlybeapprovedonmedicalgroundsorbytheHeadofPrimaryuponrequest.Parentsshouldnotifytheschoolreceptionaboutanyabsence.Foranymedicalabsenceofmorethan48hours,adoctor’scertificatemustbeprovided.

Fridayis“BirthdaysDay”!Fridaymorningbreakorattheendoftheschooldayiswhenwecelebratethebirthdaysofstudents.
Studentswhosebirthdayfallsinthatparticularschoolweekortheweekendbeforemaybringinsmallindividualcakesoronesmallbirthdaycaketosharewiththeirclassmates.Drinksandsweetsarenotpermitted.

AllPrimarySchoolstudentsareexpectedtoattendclassesvertesWheneverpossibleallthreeyeargroupswilldepartonclassesvertes atthesametime,allowingthePrimarySchooltocloseforthatweek.Shouldanyparentsdecidenottosendtheirchildonclassesvertes,theywillhavetomaketheirownsupervisoryarrangementsforthatweek.
Studentsnotattendingclassesvertes willnotbeadmittedtoschoolthatweekunlessadoctor’scertificateisprovidedwhichexcusesthestudent’sparticipationonmedicalgrounds.
Thesetripsaredesignedtocombinecurriculum-relatedandoutwardboundactivities.TheyareconsideredanessentialpartofboththeacademicandsocialdevelopmentofallPrimarySchoolstudents.

AllstudentsinthePrimarySchoolaresethomeworkeveryday(withtheexceptionofWednesday).Thetimeneededtocompletehomeworkwilldifferchildbychild.Thetimesgivenbelowareanapproximateforanaveragestudent:

AllhomeworktasksarepostedonISMPLATOsothatstudentsandparentscanaccessthem.Teachersshouldavoidsettingtoomanyindividualworksheetactivities.Itispreferabletosettasksthatcanbewrittenupinexercisebooks.
Thepurposeofhomeworkisforstudentstocarryoutindependentpracticeofkeyskillsandknowledgee.g.writing,readingcomprehension,spelling,punctuation,grammar,numberfluencyandreviewingrecentlearning.
Alltasksthatrequirecloseadultsupervisionshouldbereservedfortheclassroom.
Inadditiontohomework,studentsmaybeaskedtocompleteworkthattheyhavestartedintheclassroom.
MOBILEPHONES
MobilephonesarepermittedinthePrimarySchoolhoweverthisisconsideredaprivilegeandtheymustbehandedintotheclassteacher(switchedoff)atthebeginningoftheschoolday.
Theyarereturnedtostudentsattheendoftheschooldaybutmaynotbeusedonschoolgrounds.StudentswhodonotabidebythisrulemayhavethisprivilegeremovedbytheHeadofPrimary.
AclearlineofcommunicationbetweenteachersandparentsissomethingthatweprideourselvesonatISM.TheteachersandtheHeadofPrimaryarealwaysavailabletomeetwithparentstodiscusstheirconcerns.
Thesemaybeofabriefandinformalnatureatthebeginningandendoftheschoolday,howevermorein-depthdiscussionsrequireanappointmenttobemadeatamutuallyconvenienttime.Suchappointmentscanbemadeatanytimeduringtheschoolyearandshouldbearrangeddirectlybetweentheteacherandparent(s).
