LGBT Rights in the USA in 2016
ENDA: Employment Non-Discrimination Act
SAP’s support strives to rectify this situation:
It is legal to be fired for being gay in 28 states; for being transgender in 31 states
For example, in Pennsylvania it is legal to be fired for being gay or transgender

Via Out & Equal Workplace Advocates:
As the LGBT community celebrates a historic
win with the right to marry across the United
States, companies are also asking what, if
anything, this means for them. LGBT
Americans are still not protected in the
workplace in 28 states based on sexual
orientation, and in 31 based on gender identity.
In nearly 80 countries it is illegal to be LGBT.
This means that couples who now have the
right to marry in the United States could be
fired for doing so, or imprisoned if traveling
outside the country for work.

In the Silicon Valley in California, we are privileged enough to enjoy:
Basic human rights
The protection of laws for our family
Job security
Not fearing for our lives for being who we are
What must we do on behalf of those who aren’t? Colleagues who:
Don’t dare come out in India
Fear for their physical safety in Russia
Cannot safely move with their spouses to the office in Saudi Arabia
Fear for their jobs in some places in the US
Feel helpless and see no options to go on right here at home

Pride@SAP North America – Our Role
MAJOR GOAL
Under the umbrella of Global Pride@SAP, make the North America region a great place to work for
current and future LGBT employees, thus helping achieve SAP and SAP customers’ vision and
objectives.
OBJECTIVES
Raise awareness with leaders, managers and employees of the business value of full inclusion,
why authenticity is key, and how to create a fair, safe and comfortable working environment for
the North America-based LGBT SAP team members and their supporters. Support Global
Pride@SAP in doing the same.
Provide an open, safe, and fun social and networking forum in Silicon Valley for self-identified
LGBT employees and supporters, and help enable other locations to do the same.
Working together inclusively, give back to Labs North America and our communities, helping
to support and enrich the goal of diversity in North America and SAP as a whole with our
activities.
Our activities support these objectives.
