Made with strong Swedish pine and built to last generations, the Standard is a wonderful investment for any weaver. The Standard is available in four widths and provides endless weaving possibilities, from hand towels and scarves to rugs and luxurious upholstery material. It is strong enough to handle any task, and the open-side frame design allows easy access for threading and tying up. Our basic 4-shaft, 6-treadle model allows for expansion to up to 10 shafts, 10 treadles. The Standard’s versatility makes it a great choice for everyone, whether you have years of experience or are just starting out.

For those wanting to weave more intricate patterns, we have 12- to 16-shaft looms

The Standard counterbalance loom comes with the basic accessories to set up your loom and weave: 1000 Texsolv Heddles, tie-up kit, bench, and additional small accessories as well as the counterbalance beam, a set of pulleys, and the horses needed for four shafts.

The Julia countermarch loom comes with 4 or 8 shafts, a weaving width of 26 inches, and a footprint of just 32 x 32 inches. It is the smallest countermarch on the market. This loom ships by FedEx and includes Texsolv tie-up kit, 500 heddles, 24 warp sticks, lease sticks, a reed, and a shuttle. A 4-shaft counterbalance version is also available.

How to measure looms Knowing the correct size of your loom is very important when ordering parts.

The Sectional warp beam consists of four wooden boards with holes drilled for metal

sections. The boards are attached with screws directly to the original warp beam and the metal loops are inserted in the holes. Sectional warping is an alternative to making a warp chain and then winding it on. In sectional warping, you warp and wind on at the same time so that one step is saved. Presleying or the use of a raddle is also eliminated. Sectional warping is done so that you wind on the full length of all warp threads that will go within each section. That means that you will need to have as many spools as you need warp ends in each section.

The reindeer hides at Glimåkra USA are purchased from Gealtan AB, a Sámi company in Idre, Sweden, that since 1994 has focused on the sale of high-quality reindeer hides, horn, and meat from their own reindeer. Sámi are the indigenous people of Northern Sweden who have been herding and caring for reindeer for thousands of years. Lace LinenBockens lace linen was originally designed for making bobbin lace and has a strong tight twist. While designed for lace, it is beautiful to weave with and is also used in sewing. There are a variety of sizes of lace linen available, with colors in 35/2 and 60/2. We do keep some in stock and can special order additional colors. You can also lightly coat with beeswax for easier use in sewing.

Mattgarn translated literally is “rug yarn.” This 1.25/1 yarn can be used in heavier tapestries as well as traditional Swedish weaves such as krokbragd and rosepath. Mattgarn also works beautifully in many weft faced rugs. It has a wonderful color palette and the plies can be multiplied as needed for color blending and thickness.

Wool Borgs Vävgarner AB is a very old yarn company that started in 1734 in a town in the south of Sweden called Lund. Today the company is owned by Maria Holmqvist, and is located in Hassleholm, Sweden.

Faro is a single ply 6/1 wool used primarily for decorative weaves like tapestry, wall hangings, pillow tops and upholstery. It is perfect for wall hangings in krokbragd and boundweave. It also works well as the pattern weft in weaves like overshot and monk’s belt. For color blending and thicker projects, multiple plies can be used together. FARO is also strong and smooth enough to be used as warp.
