Once upon a time there was a smart girl named Prezzemolina. She lived with a poor old lady in a small house in Murgia.
One day an ugly ogre Nanorchio was running through the village. He stole a lot of animals to eat them. Prezzemolina got angry at him and ran after the monster. When Nanorchio was resting, she freed all the animals from his sack. There were three parrots, a dog and a donkey inside. The girl used the donkey to escape from the ogre.
At home the parrots told the story about beautiful girls imprisoned by Nanorchio. The parrots were very precious, they belonged to the prince of Murgia. When Prezzemolina got to know about the girls, she got angry again! She immediately went to Trullo, ogre’s house.
First, she freed all the horses from the stable and Nanorchio ran after them. Then, Prezzemolina went to the house and freed all the girls. Suddenly, Nanorchia (ogre’s wife) appeared. Prezzemolina was scared a little bit, but Nanorchia told her that she is a vegetarian and she doesn’t like to eat people.
Prezzemolina came back home. The old lady was waiting for her. Three parrots told the story to the prince of Murgia and he wanted to meet so smart and brave girl.
The prince fell in love in Prezzemolina. They got married and the people say the most delicious dish at the wedding party was a parsley dish!
