SUCTION UNITS:Performances and types

An industrial vacuum can work with 3 different types of suction units:

By-pass electrical motor (single phase, 240 or 110 volt)

Side channel blower electrical motor (three

phase, 400 o 690 volt)

Compressed Air powered VENTURI suction unit

Suction Unit:Single phase By-pass Motor

Two separate impeller systems, one is for suction the other for

cooling.

The by-pass motors use replaceable carbon brushes.

The top depression rise 250 mm H20 whit suction inlet completely

closed and the highest air-flow up to 180 m3/h with suction inlet

completely open.

Their life time is around 1300 hours (by replacing the brushes one

time)

Many Companies world-wide manufacture single phase by-pass

motors with different quality standards. The difference is on the quality

of the components, above all bearing and winding.

They are available from 0,5 to 25 kW and normally are three phase (230/400

volt), despite it is possible to have the smallest units (up to 2,2 kW) as single

phase 230 V.

DEFINITON

The side channel blowers are composed by one or more aluminium die-cast

rotors, electronically balanced and directly connected to the motor shaft with a

constant rotation speed of 2800 r.p.m.

Depression and Air Flow

Motor Performance and Performance Curve

The performance of a suction unit is related to two features:

1. DEPRESSION (also called “Vacuum”), taken by mmH2O (millimeters of Water

Column), mbars or others pressure measure. The top depression rate value is

measured whit suction inlet completely closed.

2. AIR FLOW, taken by m3/h (cubic meters per hour), Liters / sec. It refers to the

volume of air moved by the suction unit and shows the needed distance between

the suction inlet and the material that have to be removed. The top airflow rate is

measured with suction inlet completely open.

Sometimes the standard vacuum tank is not enough: we can use a separator than to add collection

capacity.

Delfin has different kind of separators:
