The ASTM C1581 test for shrinkage is the most accurate laboratory
test available to the construction market. Rather than simply measuring
unrestrained shrinkage length change, the C1581 test method takes into
account all four material properties that are needed to predict shrinkage:
length change, tensile capacity, tensile creep, and modulus of elasticity.
The test measures the number of days until cracking and the stress that
occurs during shrinkage. This test is documented to have excellent
correlation to field experience.
