Principles of Operation

Closed Valve Position:.as.the.system.approaches.set.

pressure,.the.pressure.pick-up.transmits.the.pressure.rom.the.

inlet.o.the.main.valve.through.the.pilot.control.and.into.the.

dome.o.the.main.valve.This.pressure.acts.upon.the.top.o.the.

piston.in.the.dome,.holding.the.piston.frmly.against.the.seat.

on.the.nozzle.in.the.main.valve.The.surace.area.o.the.piston.

in.the.dome.o.the.main.valve.is.greater.than.the.seat.area,.so.

the.greater.the.system.pressure,.the.greater.the.orce.holding.

the.piston.on.the.main.valve.seat.As.a.result,.the.pilot.operated.

relie.valve.gets.tighter.as.the.system.pressure.approaches.set.

pressure

Relieving Cycle:.at.the.point.that.the.inlet.pressure,.acting.

on.the.surace.area.o.the.pilot.control.disc,.overcomes.the.

spring.orce.in.the.pilot.valve,.the.pilot.valve.lits.The.PCF3.is..a.non-owing.pilot.control.valve.As.the.seat.assembly.in.the.

pilot.control.begins.to.lit,.it.seals.o.the.ow.o.pressure.to.

both.the.vent.and.the.main.valve.dome.At.the.same.time,.the.

pressure.in.the.dome.is.released.through.the.pilot.vent.Since.

the.pressure.in.the.dome.has.been.released,.the.system.pres-

sure.acting.on.the.bottom.o.the.piston.will.lit.the.piston.and.

will.relieve.system.overpressure

Re-Closing Cycle:.at.the.point.where.the.system.pressure.

blows.down,.the.spring.orce.in.the.pilot.valve.overcomes.the.

orce.o.system.pressure.acting.on.the.pilot.control.seat.as-

sembly.The.pilot.control.redirects.system.pressure.back..

into.the.main.valve.dome,.closing.the.main.valve.Blowdown.

can.be.precisely.adjusted.externally.by.raising.and.lowering..

the.blowdown.adjuster.position.in.the.pilot.valve

ate.bubble.tight.at.higher.operating.pressure.to.set.pressure.
