Since becoming Chief of the Park Ridge Police Department one year ago, I have worked hard to strengthen the relationship we have with all of our residents. In doing so, I have made it clear to every Park Ridge police officer there is absolutely no place in this Department for officers who betray the trust we have worked so hard to establish in our community. That’s why we immediately removed this officer’s police powers and placed him on administrative leave today. And, pending the outcome of the investigation and the legal process, we will move swiftly to take whatever steps are necessary to hold him accountable for his alleged actions. During my time here, the Park Ridge Police Department has assisted the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office during every phase of this investigation. We will continue to fully support efforts  by the Cook County States Attorney’s Office on this investigation. On behalf of the men and women who carry out their duties in the finest tradition of the Park Ridge Police Department, we are disappointed and appalled because allegations of abuse or other misconduct by officers threatens the relationship we have with those we serve. The incident in question took place in 2006 and in no way is illustrative of the work we are doing every day in every Park Ridge neighborhood to keep our community safe and to strengthen the bond  between our officers and every Park Ridge resident. And, to the people of Park Ridge, I wish to apologize if this matter has brought a degree of discredit upon this fine Department. However, it is also important to understand that we will not allow the inappropriate actions of one of our members to define or overshadow the good work our officers do every day to make this community safe.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Statement from Frank Kaminski, Chief of the Park Ridge Police Department,

regarding the indictment of a Park Ridge police officer

Today, a Cook County grand jury indicted Park Ridge police lieutenant Jason Leavitt on charges of battery and official misconduct related to an off-duty incident that took place in 2006. Leavitt posted a$10,000 D-Bond at a court appearance this afternoon. Following is a statement from Park Ridge Chief of Police Frank Kaminski regarding this matter.

Since becoming Chief of the Park Ridge Police Department one year ago, I have worked hard to

strengthen the relationship we have with all of our residents. In doing so, I have made it clear toevery Park Ridge police officer there is absolutely no place in this Department for officers who betray

the trust we have worked so hard to establish in our community.

That’s why we immediately removed this officer’s police powers and placed him on administrativeleave today. And, pending the outcome of the investigation and the legal process, we will move

swiftly to take whatever steps are necessary to hold him accountable for his alleged actions.

During my time here, the Park Ridge Police Department has assisted the Cook County State’s

Attorney’s Office during every phase of this investigation. We will continue to fully support efforts

by the Cook County States Attorney’s Office on this investigation.

On behalf of the men and women who carry out their duties in the finest tradition of the Park Ridge

Police Department, we are disappointed and appalled because allegations of abuse or other

misconduct by officers threatens the relationship we have with those we serve.

The incident in question took place in 2006 and in no way is illustrative of the work we are doingevery day in every Park Ridge neighborhood to keep our community safe and to strengthen the bond

between our officers and every Park Ridge resident.

And, to the people of Park Ridge, I wish to apologize if this matter has brought a degree of discredit

upon this fine Department. However, it is also important to understand that we will not allow the

inappropriate actions of one of our members to define or overshadow the good work our officers do

every day to make this community safe.
