utility vehicle sponsored by Kubota and Empire Farm Days. “At first I thought the call about winning the RTV was my brother playing a practical joke,” said Young, a fourth generation farmer. “I am excited to put the machine to work taking people to the orchard for u-pick apples and into the grape vineyard.” Young grows a wide variety of fruit on 20 acres, including 17 varieties of apples to make hard cider and apple wine to sell along with grape, pear and cherry blend wines for his tasting room. The RTV was delivered just in time for the Wayne County Apple Tasting Tour Weekend at the farm. This was the first time a RTV500 4WD-2WD model was provided by Kubota as the drawing prize for the show. Kubota Regional Sales Manager Kenneth Scott, Groveport, OH, noted, “The presentation of this RTV500 model continues Kubota’s tradition of providing one lucky Empire Farm Days visitor with a versatile utility vehicle that compliments any type of farming operation.” Oneida County Student Wins 2019 NYS FFA Tractor Safety Driving Contest Owen Williams of Waterville Central School, Waterville, Oneida County, NY, won the 2019 NYS FFA Tractor Safety Driving Contest Senior Division for students age 16 to 18. The Junior Division for students age 14 to 16 was won by Aaron Fisher of Pioneer Central School, Yorkshire, Cattaraugus County, NY. Pioneer Central School FFA Advisor Jon Clayson serves as contest coordinator. The NYS FFA Tractor Safety Driving Contest winner earns the right to compete at the Eastern States Exposition in Springfield, Massachusetts. Case International, John Deere, Kubota, New Holland, H and S Farm Equipment, the New York Center for Agricultural Medicine and Health, Java Farm Supply, Lamb and Webster, and the New York FFA Foundation sponsored the 2019 contest. Allegany County Students Win 2019 NYS FFA Welding Competition Trevor Hawley of the Cuba Rushford Central School FFA Chapter in Cuba, Allegany County, NY, earned top individual honors in the 2019 New York State FFA Welding Competition held at Empire Farm Days and partnered with Logan Barber to finish as the first place team. Second place individual honors went to Patrick Fontaine of Pioneer Central School and Wyatt Adams of Randolph Central School finished in third place. Morrisville State College awards scholarship funds to the top three NYS FFA Welding Competition individual students: $1,000 for first place, $750 second place, and $500 third place. Haun Welding, Briggs and Stratton Power Products of Munnsville, and Morrisville State College sponsored the 2019 competition. High Team performance is recognized with a certificate. Johanna Bossard of Hamilton Central School and Jared Ford and Charles Ax of Morrisville State College serve as contest coordinators. Lewis County Student Names 2019 Empire State Potato Growers Scholar Alexis Payne of Glenfield, Lewis County, NY, is the Empire State Potato Growers, Inc. 2019 Scholarship winner. She will receive a $500 scholarship per academic year for up to four consecutive years of full-time undergraduate agricultural education at a college in

New York State. Alexis is a graduate of South Lewis Central School and served as Chapter President and Student Advisor with the South Lewis FFA. Cortland County Farm Family Named 2019 NYS AEM Award Winner Whey Street Dairy and the Young family of Cuyler, Cortland County, NY, was presented the 2019 New York State Agricultural Environmental Management Award at the 2019 Empire Farm Days Ag Leadership Luncheon. The award recognizes the farm and the nominating county Soil and Water Conservation District for their efforts to protect soil and water quality. The New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets, Empire State Potato Growers, and American Agriculturist magazine jointly sponsor the award. The 2020 Empire Farm Days agricultural trade show and rural living showcase will be held July 29-31, 2020, with a new Wednesday-Friday schedule at Rodman Lott and Son Farms in Seneca Falls, N.Y.
