International Conference at the Columbia University in New York: Broadband provides the basis for growth in Europe, America and the Developing Countries

New York/Düsseldorf/Berlin, October 27, 2009: At the “CITI’s Annual State of Telecom Conference” at the Columbia University, New York, experts from all over the world discussed the curre nt situation of broadband provision. MICUS Management Consulting - http://www.micus.de - presented the impact of the development of the broadband infrastructure on the economical deve lopment. An economic growth of 0.7 % can be expected, if a fast broadband infrastructure is consistently built in Germany and the other EU-countries.

On the basis of the current EU study, Martin Fornefeld, Managing Director of MICUS, made clear that with a consistent development of the broadband infrastructure and the concurrent promotion of new network-based applications particularly in the medium-sized economy in Europe 150,000 additional jobs can be established per year.

Paul Katz, Director Business Strategy Research – Colombia Institute for Tele-Information - http://www4.gsb.columbia.ecu/citi - confirmed the effects of the MICUS EU-study whereupon innovation is one of the main drivers for growth. More qualified, more efficient and finally additional jobs can be achieved by the outsourcing of administrative operations which will be enabled by broadband. Jonathan Liebenau, London School of Economics, reported that studies in England yielded similar results.

Chris Boam, Director Regulation and Public Affairs of Verizon, tellingly showed that the consistent development of the broadband infrastructure can be profitably conducted by private investors.

Heather Hudson, Professor of Telecommunication at the University of San Francisco, revealed that by the consistent development of the broadband infrastructure foreign aid can give more impulses for an enduring development policy than any other kind of aid money.

On the occasion of the Conference with international experts of high rank, MICUS and the Colombia Institute for Tele-Information (CITI) agreed upon a further collaboration in terms of economic issues regarding the growth impulses of broadband technologies.
