EXAMINATIONCOMMONPRELIMINARY EXAMINATIONThe Union Public Service Commission will hold the Civil Services (Preliminary)

Examination, 2013 on 26th May, 2013. This Preliminary Examination will be common

for the candidates applying for Civil Services Examination and Indian Forest Service

Examination, and will actas a screening mechanism for selection of candidatesfor the Civil Services (Main) Examination and Indian Forest Service (Main)Examination. The examination will be held at various centres across the country,in accordance with the rules of Civil Services Examination notified in the official

gazette extraordinary on 5th of March, 2013 by the Department of Personnel &

Training, Government of India and the rules of Indian Forest Service Examination

notified by the Ministry of Environment and Forest in the official gazette extraordinary

on 5th of March, 2013.

2. Candidates are required to apply through online mode in the Commissionswebsite www.upsconline.nic.in. No other mode is allowed for submission ofapplication. Thecommencementoffillingonlineapplicationshallstartfrom5thMarch,2013 andconcludeon 4thApril,2013[till11.59PM].3. For details regarding the Syllabus and Scheme of the examination, Centers of

examination, Guidelines for filling up application form etc. aspirants must login

Commissions websitewww.upsconline.nic.inorwww.upsc.gov.inandrefertothenoticesoftheabovementionedtwoexaminations. Candidatesarerequestedtonote that there are some changes in the scheme of Civil Services [Main]Examination and also in the scheme of Indian Forest Service Examination.While for theCivilServicesExamination, it is in thebasiccontentof theMainWritten Examinationwhereinchangeshave been madeby the government, inthe Indian Forest Service Examination, a preliminary examination has beenintroduced as a mode of screening candidates for the Indian Forest Service(Main)Examination.4. Detailed Notices of Civil Services Examination and India Forest Service

shortly.

5. While submitting online applications for Civil Service (Preliminary)Examination, the candidates will have the option to choose either the CivilServices or Indian Forest Service or both. Therefore, before exercising theiroptions, applicants may carefully read and understand the eligibility and other criteriacontained in the detailed notices of both the Civil Services Examination, 2013 and

Indian Forest Service Examination ,2013 which are available in the aforementioned

website of the Commission.
